The final of the UK Championship will take place on Sunday and it will see two of the very best in the game at present going at it when Neil Robertson takes on Judd Trump inside the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes.
These two men have both won the title in the past but neither have won it for a few years so they will be battling hard to get their hands on the second most prestigious ranking title in the game and set them up nicely for the second half of the campaign.
Neil Robertson
The Australian star Neil Robertson has been in superb touch in this tournament and looks like the man to beat but he will know he faces his stiffest task yet if he is to land another Triple Crown title. Robertson has already lost to Trump in one final this season so he’ll be eager not to repeat that feat. The concern going into the final is that Robertson hasn’t really been troubled in the event so far so it will be interesting to see what he has about him if he is pushed hard here.
The last two performances Robertson has delivered in this event have been something special. He was nearly perfect against Mark Selby in the quarter final and then produced three tons and an 89 in demolishing Zhou Yuelong in the semi-final. He needs to keep up that scoring level here because his safety game probably doesn’t match up well to Trump here. If Robertson scores strongly he has got a chance but if he doesn’t it is hard to see him winning this match.
Judd Trump
The world number one Judd Trump wasn’t at his best in the early part of the event but his last two performances have been very good too. Trump saw off his rival Kyren Wilson in the quarter final, repelling a strong comeback by the Warrior and then he took care of Lu Ning in the semi-final with the minimum of fuss. He looks to be getting stronger with each match which is what we are used to seeing from a man who has become a tournament winning machine in recent times.
It will not be lost on Trump that he goes into this final having won his last 11 major ranking event finals including two this season in the English Open and Northern Ireland Open. He is the unassailable world number one and if anything he is getting better year on year. Trump goes into this final with the better safety game of the two men so if he scores well in this final he is going to be incredibly tough to beat.

Head to Head
These two have battled it out on 23 previous occasions in their career and it is Trump who has had the edge in those past meetings. He has won 13 of them to the 10 that Robertson has come out on top in. In the frame count Trump is slightly on top as well. He has 132 frames to 124 of the Australian. The pair have met six times in the past in finals with Trump again having the edge. He has won four of them to the two that Robertson won, including that English Open final earlier in the year. That went to a deciding frame, as did their Champion of Champions final last year which Robertson won 10-9. Despite that Robertson win, history is with Trump.
Betting
I think Trump will win this final as well but I’m not backing him at the prices that he currently is so my bet for the final is for there to be over 4.5 century breaks. These two hit five between them in the 12 frames they won in the semi-finals and Trump was the roll of the black ball away from adding another. When these two met in the Champion of Champions final last season there were eight centuries in the 19 frames.
There are other matches where these two have combined for a stack load of tons. I was at Alexandra Palace when they met in a quarter final of The Masters where there were six centuries in the 11 frames and in the English Open earlier in the season there were four centuries in the 17 frames. This behind closed doors setup is just a glorified practice session for these two boys who are regular century makers having both gone past the 100 centuries in a campaign in the past, and both could easily do it again this year. I like over 4.5 tons in what should be an epic final.
