The Vitality Blast continues on Friday when seven matches take place up and down the country across the three groups as we head into the second half of the first phase of the tournament, where each win is beginning to magnify in importance.
The ODI has the television coverage on Friday so in order to watch these matches we are resigned to the live streams of the counties, but as we keep on saying they are of a pretty decent quality these days so that isn’t an issue.
North Group
The top two meet in the North Group on Friday night when Nottinghamshire Outlaws host the Lancashire Lightning at Trent Bridge in a match where the winners are going to be sitting very pretty for a place in the knockout stages. Yorkshire sit waiting to take advantage of whoever loses at Trent Bridge. They head to Grace Road to take on fourth placed Leicestershire who themselves aren’t out of contention. The bottom two collide in the other game when Derbyshire make the trip up north to take on Durham.
Central Group
The top two also meet in the Central Group where they get the action in this section underway when Northamptonshire take on Gloucestershire in the afternoon start at Wantage Road. The winners of this match will be well on their way to the knockout stage and will be in a decent position. Somerset are chasing the top two hard and they will be hoping to continue that fight when they host the bottom side Worcestershire at Taunton in the evening while the other match in the group sees the Birmingham Bears taking on Glamorgan in a match both could do with winning.

South Group
We only have one match in the South Group on Friday and it comes in the afternoon when Essex, who really need to win at least four of their last five if not all five in order to take their title defence to the knockout stages, host a Surrey team who after a slow start to their competition have hit form recently and will go top of the table if they are able to come out on top down at Chelmsford to make it three successive wins.
Betting
There isn’t a whole lot around on Friday that I like the look of so I’m not really going to push the boat out chasing bets that I don’t like, especially with so many matches coming along both in this competition and the Indian Premier League which gets underway next weekend. If Surrey were to drift a little then I would gladly get involved in them but until that happens my only bet comes in the match down at Taunton where Somerset host Worcestershire.
Somerset have already carted this Worcestershire attack all around Edgbaston this season and there is nothing to suggest they won’t be doing it again here but Worcestershire are going to have to fight fire with fire because they are in desperate need of a win here. Both teams pile their side with batsmen and bat very deep so I’m fully expecting the over 10.5 sixes to land here. That boundary at Edgbaston was short when these two combined for 19 sixes but it isn’t much bigger here. I’ll take the over.
