The Vitality Blast continues with a couple of matches from the South Group on Saturday afternoon as the four sides who were not in action on Friday take to the field for what are becoming two valuable points.
Unfortunately with the Covid-19 restrictions and bubbles neither of these matches are on TV but they are both going to be shown on the live streams that the counties offer which is a decent enough alternative.
Kent vs Sussex
The big match of the afternoon sees the leaders of the South Group, Kent, taking on a Sussex side who sit in third but who will go top of the pile should they come out on top in Canterbury and with matches beginning to run out that makes this huge for both sides.
Kent are the only team in the South Group who are unbeaten after their recent win over Sussex and if they can follow that up with another, not only will they be looking good for a quarter final spot but they would be well on their way to winning the group which means they would host a team in the last eight. Sussex can’t be ruled out here though because they are a dangerous outfit with bat and ball and should only get stronger from here on in.
This should be a cracking match because these two teams are in excellent touch right now but given that Kent beat Sussex when the Sharks had Phil Salt I’m thinking they should be good things again at even money. Sussex do have Chris Jordan back and that is decent but their batting looks light without Salt. Kent have Joe Denly in their ranks to make it less about their opening batsmen and he can offer something with the ball too. It is Kent for me.

Middlesex vs Hampshire
The other match of the day sees two sides who are desperate for a win given that the three sides above them look to be getting away from them as Middlesex take on Hampshire at Lord’s. It isn’t too farfetched to suggest that the losers of this match will need snookers to qualify for the next round.
Hampshire haven’t been able to find any consistency in their play this season or in their team selection but having James Vince and Shaheen Shah Afridi back in their ranks should improve that but we saw that their batting is still brittle against Sussex the other night. Middlesex look much more solid with the bat but then if we go back a week they stuck in a poor show against Surrey. It might be that the all-round quality with the ball that Middlesex have will get this done but I don’t think they are certainties so they can be avoided at 8/11. I’m not convinced Hampshire pull off the shock though so I’ll leave this one alone.
