2020 WDF Remote Darts League – Sunday 26th April Matches Tips and Betting Preview

It is the final night of the regular campaign in the first season of the Remote Darts League on Sunday night and it is an evening in which the top four will be finalised, with six men still battling it out for those slots.

That should make it an extremely competitive evening of darts to follow on from a pretty good night in the competition on Saturday, to build up to a tantalising conclusion to the event on finals night on Monday.

The Format

If you are a fan of the Premier League Darts event that the PDC hold each year this format will be familiar to you as it is very similar to that. The 10 men face each other once over the first nine evenings of the competition with the top four in the league table progressing to finals night in the 10th evening. The winner of the semi-finals and final is crowned the champion. Each match in the league phase is the best of 12 legs and players get two points for a win and one for a draw. The whole event will be shown live on the Remote Darts League channel on YouTube.

Night Eight Recap

It was another night where all but one match went the distance so it certainly didn’t disappoint. The night was hyped up by the match between James Richardson and Jim Williams, which ‘Ruthless’ Richardson won 7-5. The other big name battle saw Darryl Fitton see off Paul Hogan 7-5. Elsewhere, there were 7-5 wins for Tony O’Shea over Wes Newton and Gary Robson over John Walton. The other match saw an easier victory for Alan Norris, who oversaw Dean Winstanley 7-2.

There was a minor profit on the night for us betting wise with the Tony O’Shea and Gary Robson double landing relatively safely enough. Both won 7-5 which justified the decision to double them up rather than bet on the handicaps. Sadly Paul Hogan missed darts at double in each of the first six legs bar one against Darryl Fitton and instead of being 5-1 up he was 4-2 down and ended up losing 7-5 so it was just a marginal gain profit wise.

Preview

It is a big night in the Remote Darts League as the semi-final slots get decided. James Richardson is already guaranteed his place in the final four but his opponent in the opening match of the night, Darryl Fitton, needs to win as big as he can and hope he does enough to get in. Gary Robson is in the same boat as Fitton, needing to win big against Wes Newton and pray that someone does him a big favour elsewhere in the night.

Jim Williams isn’t far away from sealing his qualification for the semi-final and he will be expected to head into the last four with a win over Dean Winstanley. The other two matches on the night see Paul Hogan, who is already assured of his last four spot, taking on John Walton, and Tony O’Shea, who will be in the knockout stages if he wins, taking on Alan Norris who finally came to the party on Saturday night.

Betting

This isn’t an easy night to bet on because the situation will change as it goes on and even if it doesn’t there are understandably a lot of short priced favourites that are even shorter than they would normally be because of the need to win issue factored into the equation. It is like betting at the end of the football season in that regard. There is one bet which I think is a good thing though and that will act as my betting interest on the night.

The penultimate match of the league phase should be a win for Gary Robson. He might already be out of contention for the top four by the time he plays his match with Wes Newton but I’m sure he will want to go out on a high and actually if the pressure is off him it might well free him up to produce his best. Should that happen then he is easily good enough to not only beat Wes Newton but with the throw to start, covering a 2.5 leg handicap too. If he is still somehow in contention to progress he’ll need to win big anyway. Newton has improved as the week has gone on but there are still too many scratchy darts in his scoring. Robson can take advantage and win no less than 7-4.

Tips

WON – Back G.Robson (-2.5 legs) to beat W.Newton for a 3/10 stake at 1.91 with Coral
