2020 WDF Remote Darts League – Sunday 31st May Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Remote Darts League continues on Sunday evening as the second season sees players begin the penultimate evening of league action in their campaigns, which means that every match they play carries extra significance from here on in.

That makes everything more dramatic and competitive so that is good for us who are watching on and betting on the competition. We saw a standout performance on Saturday evening and four more players will hope to carry on the good standard on Sunday.

The Format

The league phase of the competition will see the 16 players play each other once over the best of 10 legs across the first 20 nights of the season, with two points for a win and one for a draw. Four players play each night and compete in three matches in the sessions they play, so all 16 players will play in just five of the first 20 evenings of the campaign.

At the end of the league phase the top four will go into the playoffs on the final night where the semi-finals are played over the best of 15 legs and the winner will be determined over the best of 19 legs. The entire tournament is being streamed on the Remote Darts League YouTube channel and various bookmaker websites.

Saturday Recap

It was another positive night for James Richardson who didn’t lose a leg in two of his three matches. He watched on to begin with though as Darren Herewini saw off Lorraine WInstanley to kick the night off before Richardson powered past John O’Shea emphatically. O’Shea then made up for being steamrolled by Richardson by getting the better of Herewini and then came the performance of the Remote Darts League so far as Richardson averaged over 115 in dispatching of Winstanley 6-0. He then drew 5-5 with Herewini before O’Shea rounded off the night by beating Winstanley 6-0.

It was a proper annoying night for us betting wise. We was on Richardson to beat Herewini 6-3 or better and off the back of that 115 average against Winstanley it looked a racing certainty. He never hit those heights again obviously but he still averaged 98.59, near enough a full 13pts more than Herewini but missed two darts at tops to win 6-3 and ended up only drawing 5-5. Everything about that bet was unlucky for us but we move on.

Preview

There is a down under feel about proceedings on Sunday evening with three of the players on show coming from New Zealand and Australia. The two Kiwis get the night underway when Tina Osborne takes on Darren Herewini, who is on show for the second night in succession. This could be a big night for Justin Thompson as he could end it on top of the table. A win over Jim Williams in his first match would enhance that. He then has a match he’ll be expected to win against Osborne to take us to halfway in the evening.

It then becomes the Jim Williams show. He really needs a good night to get himself back in the semi-final shake up. He’ll go up against Darren Herewini first before then facing Osborne in a match which he simply has to win and could do with winning it by as big a margin as possible. It might be that the last match ends up being the pick of the matches as that sees Herewini taking on Thompson in the battle of the two best Australasian players in the WDF sphere.

Betting

I’ve been keen on Justin Thompson throughout this tournament and I see him picking up a couple of wins here if not all three. The match I like him in from a betting point of view is the one against Darren Herewini. Herewini still only has one 90+ average in this tournament and although as we saw in his match against Richardson on Saturday, averages aren’t everything, his last six read 82.05, 75.37, 84.77, 81.02, 80.71 and 85.99.

Thompson has played nine matches in the tournament and his only average below 85 came against Stacey Pace and you would expect that because he will have been so far clear there just won’t have been any competitive juices flowing there. Thompson has been the better player of the two throughout the tournament and I think he is in general and if he puts in a clean performance here I expect him to have too much for Herewini.
