The second round of the BNP Paribas Open begins at the ATP Indian Wells event on Saturday when the seeded players enter the latest Masters 1000 event for the first time, ensuring we get a really good day of tennis to enjoy.
With the seeded players come the big names and we have some of the biggest and best in the tournament on show across a lengthy day of tennis as places in the last 32 of such a prestigious event are up for grabs.
Stadium 1
It is the highest ranked American in the world who gets the action underway on Saturday on the main court when Reilly Opelka steps onto the court. He faces the Japanese player Taro Daniel before two of the American young guns battle it out in the final men’s match of the day session. That sees Sebastian Korda going up against Frances Tiafoe. The other men’s clash comes in the night session where the top seed Daniil Medvedev looks to build on his excellent summer when he takes on yet another American on show in Mackenzie McDonald.
Stadium 2
There are only two men’s matches mixed in with the women’s action over on the second court. One of those comes in the day session which is the third match on court as two Canadians battle it out when Denis Shapovalov takes on his compatriot Vasek Pospisil before the night session sees the second men’s match taking place. That involves the Cincinnati Masters finalist Andrey Rublev. He goes up against the Spanish player Carlos Taberner.

Stadium 3
There are three men’s matches on the Stadium 3 court on Saturday and they start out right from the get go and keep coming one after the other. Diego Schwartzman has the honour of starting up the action. He meets the American qualifier Maxime Cressy before the San Diego champion Casper Ruud steps onto the court for the first time since he won that event. He goes up against the Spanish challenger Roberto Carballes Baena before Grigor Dimitrov takes on Daniel Altmaier to round off the men’s action on this court.
Best of the Rest
There are seeds involved in every men’s match on Saturday and there are a few of them mixed in around the women’s and doubles matches with the likes of Dusan Lajovic and Filip Krajinovic on show over on Stadium 4 while the British pair of Dan Evans and Cam Norrie are on show over on Stadium 5. Hubert Hurkacz and Roberto Bautista Agut are two of the other seeds on show on what should be a cracking day of tennis.
Betting
When Seb Korda bounced onto the scene he was being spoken of as the next best thing. That tends to happen all the time when children of famous players follow in the footsteps of their parents but just recently things have gone a little cold for the American and I’m not entirely convinced he has the conditions to get back on track here when he takes on his fellow American player Frances Tiafoe in the second match on the main court on Saturday.
Tiafoe did what he needed to do against Benoit Paire in the first round and while we can’t really take too much out of that contest because as ever the Frenchman beat himself in parts, Tiafoe was able to shake off the rust and more importantly get used to the different conditions of this tournament when you consider it usually takes place in March. The courts are much slower this year so the bigger shots of Korda are going to be neutralised somewhat and the athletic ability and showmaking skills of Tiafoe should come to the fore more. I think in these conditions, with better form over the last few months and a match under his belt already this week, Tiafoe looks a good bet here.
