The second day of the British Open takes place inside the Morningside Arena in Leicester on Tuesday when the first round continues with another three sessions of action which will do very well to match the drama of the opening day.
Monday saw a 147, countless deciding frames and one of the most intense snooker matches there has ever been so if Tuesday is half as good as that it will be something quite special. With the repeat of the world final the headline act though it might very well live up to the expectation.
Morning Session
The four tables are in action throughout the course of the day on Tuesday and on the main one first up in this morning we have Xiao Guodong on the baize for his first round clash against Dominic Dale. Over on the other main table Lu Ning will get his season started when he takes on the Brazilian number one Igor Figueiredo while the two outside tables see Lee Walker going up against Sanderson Lam and Wu Yize meeting Fraser Patrick.
The second part of the morning session sees the main TV table being occupied by David Grace. The former UK Championship semi-finalist meets Mark Lloyd in a pretty low key match to be on this table. That is especially the case when you consider that Anthony McGill is also in action in the session. He will take on Zhao Jianbo on the other main table while a couple of Chinese outsiders are on the outside tables as Chang Bingyu meets Andy Hicks and Zhang Jiankang faces Peter Lines.
Afternoon Session
There should be some tasty snooker in the afternoon session on Tuesday because the world number six Kyren Wilson is on show on the main TV table first up. He faces Ashley Hugill who went relatively well in the Championship League last week. While they are playing, Joe Perry will be on the other main table when he goes up against Ben Hancorn. Mark Joyce will be on one of the outside tables when he faces Jimmy Robertson while Elliot Slessor meets Peter Devlin in the other one.
Stephen Maguire will grace the main table second in the afternoon when he meets the Welsh youngster Jackson Page, who is yet to really fulfil his potential on the baize. Jack Lisowski will be in action over on the second table when he takes on the veteran Barry Pinches in a match you would expect the ranking event finalist to come through in. The other two matches sees Iulian Boiko facing Anthony Hamilton and Dean Young meeting Scott Donaldson.

Evening Session
It is the much anticipated re-run of the World Championship final which gets the action underway on the main table on Tuesday evening when Mark Selby takes on the man he beat to regain the world crown in Shaun Murphy. The other main table sees Michael Holt going up against the veteran Mark Davis in an appealing looking match. The outside tables have Ricky Walden playing James Cahill and Michael Judge meeting Andrew Pagett on them.
We had an intriguing match on the main TV table to finish of the play on Monday and we have another on Tuesday when Stephen Hendry rounds off the play in front of the cameras. He faces a tricky test against Chris Wakelin. The newest tournament winner Dave Gilbert is on the other main table on Tuesday evening when he meets the capable Matthew Stevens while the other two matches see Jamie Jones taking on Hossein Vafaei and Ross Muir facing Ryan Day.
Betting
There isn’t a huge amount that I like over the course of Tuesday but there is one fairly early on in the piece which catches my eye where Lu Ning meets Igor Figueiredo in a match which I think the Brazilian can come through. He has had his cue out this season already at the Championship League and it might be that this short format will suit someone who scores well but probably doesn’t have the tactical astuteness to compete with a Ning over a longer distance.
This will be the first time Ning will have played competitively since the World Championship qualifying so he is entitled to feel a little rusty even allowing for the fact that he’ll have been pounding the practice table as ever. There were signs towards the end of the last campaign that Figueiredo can more than mix it at this level and if he has his scoring boots with him here I think he’s overpriced in this one.
