2021 English Open Snooker – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The second day of action at the English Open at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes on Tuesday sees the first round of the competition continuing on what should be a wonderful day of snooker at the latest Home Nations event of the campaign.

The majority of the big names made it through their qualifying match for the main draw on Monday, although we did lose a couple. Some of those who won on Monday are back on show on a tasty schedule on Tuesday.

Morning Session

After rightly complaining about a lack of time on the TV table, Kyren Wilson gets to grace that stage on Tuesday morning when he takes on Ashley Carty in a match he should win but which could get a little hairy for him if he allows it. Over on the other main table Anthony McGill will be the star attraction. He will go up against Gerard Greene in a match our outright bet should win. The other two matches in this morning session sees Mark King taking on Cao Yupeng and Xiao Guodong meeting Steven Hallworth, who seems to be popping up on the bigger stages more often these days.

Afternoon Session

We have a full slate of matches in the afternoon session on Tuesday with the world champion Mark Selby occupying the TV table in the first of the two sets of games. He meets the youngster Jamie Wilson in what might be a clash in styles. Over on the other main table Barry Hawkins will look to make the third round of a tournament when he takes on a Jak Jones who shouldn’t be underestimated. The other two matches involve a trio of Chinese players. Ross Muir takes on Wu Yize in a match which sees two men have a great chance to make a rare last 32 appearance in a big event.

The second session of matches is where the afternoon might well come to life. The match on the TV table sees the defending champion Judd Trump continuing his title defence when he takes on the British Open semi-finalist Jimmy Robertson, who took Trump to a deciding frame in Belfast last month. Over on the other main table Graeme Dott will be on show when he faces Mark Davis in a good looking match. The other matches see Soheil Vahedi facing Robbie Williams and Chang Bingyu meeting Paul Deaville.

Safer Gambling Week

This week is Safer Gambling Week, an initiative we are fully supportive of on this website. If you are having a problem with your gambling click the image below for help.

Evening Session

There is a shortened evening session on Tuesday for some reason with just the five matches across the two sets of games. The TV table has a cracking contest in it first up when John Higgins looks to continuing his quest for the title when he takes on an Oliver Lines who has made a good start to the season. Stuart Bingham will be on the other main table. He meets a Fergal O’Brien who might fancy his chances given the form of the former world champion. The Northern Ireland Open semi-finalist Ricky Walden is on show on one of the outside tables when he meets Sunny Akani.

The second set of games has just two matches on the schedule but it is a big night for Stephen Hendry on the TV table. He failed to qualify for the two European events in the early part of next year and won’t be at the Scottish Open either so he could do with maximising this week. He meets Chris Wakelin which won’t be easy. The other match sees Mark Joyce looking to build on his win over Jack Lisowski in their held over qualifying match on Monday. He faces Jamie Clarke.

Betting

We have to wait until deeper into the evening session for my one bet on the second day of the tournament. That comes in the form of Jamie Clarke who I fancy to beat Mark Joyce. Had it not been for the qualifiers last week I wouldn’t have taken this bet because the match Joyce played on Monday would have been a huge advantage but Clarke should be nicely into his work having played three matches over the last week or so, winning two of them.

Clarke didn’t just win a match at the German Masters qualifying and that for the European Masters but in total in the 10 frames he won he made two tons, a 90, four 70s and a couple of 50 breaks which is impressive scoring whoever you are. Joyce lost both of his qualifying matches for those events so his win over Lisowski on Monday came out of the blue a little. He will have used up a lot of mental reserves there though. That win was the first of the season away from the Championship League for Joyce. He has lost to some ordinary players so far which makes me think all isn’t well with his game. In a match where he has more expectation on him it might be that his shortage of confidence returns. I like Clarke here.

Tips

Back J.Clarke to beat M.Joyce for a 3/10 stake at 1.91 with William Hill
