2021 Grand Slam of Darts – Day 2 Evening Session Tips and Betting Preview

The evening session at the Grand Slam of Darts on Sunday sees the four groups which got up and running on Saturday night playing their second matches in Wolverhampton as we move towards the conclusion of the first stage of the tournament.

It was an entertaining evening on Saturday with the likes of Gary Anderson, Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright and the defending champion Jose de Sousa all picking up opening wins. They are all on show looking to consolidate their positions on Sunday night.

First Four Matches

As with the afternoon session we begin with the players who lost their opening match on Saturday taking to the stage. Luke Humphries is therefore the first big name in action. He meets the former Canadian representative at the World Cup in Matt Campbell before Raymond van Barneveld continues his comeback on the big stage. He will look to take advantage of an injury which is clearly hampering his opponent Joe Davis. The two ladies in the draw take to the stage in the next two matches. Lisa Ashton is the first one up. She will take on John Henderson before Fallon Sherrock takes us through to the halfway mark of the evening when she plays Mike de Decker.

Later Four Matches

The evening concludes with the four matches that involved the winners from Saturday evening and they begin with the clash between the defending champion Jose de Sousa and a Mensur Suljovic who was very impressive on Sunday. The two winners from Group H then take to the stage when Gary Anderson meets Michael Smith in what is always an intriguing clash before Peter Wright continues his campaign. He meets Gabriel Clemens before the night is rounded off with a repeat of that World Championship epic from last year when Michael van Gerwen takes on Joe Cullen.

Betting

We’ve started this tournament in excellent form with our first five match bets all winning but there isn’t a huge amount I like over the course of this session. We saw a number of one-sided matches in these groups on Saturday and the bookmakers are all over that for the Sunday games. With that in mind, I’m not going to push the boat out but there is one price which has just about enough juice in it still to get involved in.

That is the one between Gary Anderson and Michael Smith, a contest in which I think the younger man can come out on top in. Anderson came through against Joe Davis on Saturday but he was never in any trouble against an injured opponent. That injury allowed Anderson to paper over the cracks of a series of missed doubles which have cost him dearly in recent TV matches and if they come along again here they definitely will cost him. Smith showed his class against Barneveld on Saturday night, holding his nerve in a tense final leg after his opponent had thrown everything at him. Smith scored well in that match and if he does that here he’s stronger recent doubling should see him to another win here.

Tips

Back M.Smith to beat G.Anderson for a 3/10 stake at 1.73 with William Hill
