The second day of the week in the Modus Online Live League sees the middle day of action in Group A taking place as the six players on show battle it out for more points and to put themselves in position to qualify for the final group later in the week.
There was a gulf in quality between a couple of players on Monday and the others so it will be interesting to see if that continues on Tuesday or whether everything closes up a little over the course of the day.
The Format
We now know the format for the competition! There are three groups which make up the event each week. Group A has the same six players on the first three days. The winner goes through to the Saturday final while second and third are joined by three new players in Group B to be played on the Thursday and Friday evenings. The top two from that group move into the Saturday final group. The bottom three from Group A meet three new players in Group C on Thursday and Friday morning where the top two move into the Saturday final group where the weekly winner is crowned. Each group sees each player play the others once in each session. All matches in all groups are the best of seven legs and the bookmaker live streaming consoles and the Online Darts YouTube channel has all the coverage.
Monday Recap
Jamie Caven was the player who made the first move on Monday. His four wins were enough for him to top the group and he’ll be looking to push on throughout the play on Tuesday. Richie Burnett, Joe Davis and Robert Thornton all opened up their week with three wins and will be looking to challenge later in the week while Darryl Fitton and Barrie Bates could only come up with solitary victories so they need a much better showing on Wednesday to avoid falling into one of the other qualifying groups.
We started the week well from a betting point of view. I wouldn’t say Robert Thornton’s win over Barrie Bates was as convincing as we would have liked, or indeed expected, but it was sizeable enough to land the -1.5 leg handicap that we took him to cover. He may only have averaged 83.6 but it was still enough for a 4-2 win. That gives us something to build from as the week goes on.

Group Betting
Going into the week I expected to be betting on this group by now but what I thought might happen on Monday didn’t so I’m going to watch on throughout Tuesday to see if the likes of Robert Thornton and Darryl Fitton needed the run or whether I’ve overestimated them even at this level. The way the group is poised it is still likely to be alive when it goes into its final day on Wednesday so I will take a back seat and assess the situation ahead of that rather than risk anything on Tuesday.
Match Betting
Once again though I will go with a bet for Tuesday and it comes in the match betting where there is one I like. Initially both during this competition and the PDC Home Tour which was over the same format I thought the throw would be a significant advantage but that wasn’t the case in this group on Monday. Eight of the 15 matches was won by the player who threw second and that might not be a freak occurrence this week.
I say that because a couple of these players looked out of their depth a little bit on Monday. One of those was Joe Davis and I think Richie Burnett can get the better of him on Tuesday. Burnett beat Davis with the throw 4-0 on Monday but interestingly that was the only time on Monday that Davis averaged more than 78 in a match. He averaged just under 95 in that match but only had one dart at a double as Burnett slammed in two 15 dart legs and a 13 darter. Burnett’s lowest average on Monday was 88.4, the others were all 90 and above and I suspect he might even have more to come after the run on Monday. Even though Burnett throws second in this match I still think he can win the match.
