It is the final day of the WGC Dell Match Play at the Austin Country Club on Sunday and given that three of the four players left standing have either won this tournament or made the final of it in the past we should be in for a very good day of golf.
Sunday will see both the semi-finals taking place in the morning before the consolation game and the final come along in the afternoon. Time restrictions will deny us a chance to look at the latter two matches but we can get stuck into the semi-finals.
Dustin Johnson vs Scottie Scheffler
Match tees off at 15.05 BST
The opening semi-final sees two players who were on the victorious USA Ryder Cup team last year going at it when Dustin Johnson takes on the beaten finalist of 12 months ago in the form of Scottie Scheffler, who begins the day knowing that he is two wins away from being the world number one.
That fact is a little bit of a concern for Scottie backers because he could quite easily start thinking about that but the fact he has a strong challenge in front of him might mean that the rankings don’t come into his mind until the final should he get there. These two look very evenly matched. They both smack it a mile and they both have a decent short game so I suspect that the winner of this one will be the man who plays the opening holes the better and certainly on Saturday that was Scheffler. Johnson was two down after three in both of his Saturday games but both his opponents let him off the hook around the turn. I don’t see Scheffler doing that so if he can tighten up with the putter early doors and get in front and keep the pressure on he can be the man to qualify for his second final in succession.

Corey Conners vs Kevin Kisner
Match tees off at 15.20 BST
The second semi-final sees the Canadian star Corey Conners taking on the former champion here Kevin Kisner who is amazingly looking to make it into a third final in this tournament after losing out in the Championship match in 2018 before winning in 2019.
Conners is yet to taste glory in a WGC tournament but he has played well this week. He saw off Louis Oosthuizen and Alex Noren in the group stage and then would have had a putt for a sixth birdie in his last 16 game against Takumi Kanaya had the match not got conceded before chucking six birdies at Abraham Ancer in the quarter final. Kisner loves it here and showed on Saturday that he can win from behind and control things from in front. He was three down with four to play against Adam Scott in the last 16 but played those last four holes four under in extreme pressure before four birdies was enough to ease past Will Zalatoris. This should be a close match but you sense in this environment the experience and the more reliable putting stroke of Kisner will see him prevail. I hope that is the case as I’m on him outright and I’ll be quite happy to have a 50/1 shot to cheer on in the final!
