The Olympic Games in Rio head into their final week on Monday with plenty more events on show and gold medals to be fought for and won. Rio 2016 raised the levels up a notch on Sunday and the competitors on show will be looking to emulate that and better it on Monday.

Other Events
As ever through this Olympics the team events continue apace with the likes of hockey, volleyball, handball and water polo all heading into the knockout stages. Individual events such as badminton, boxing and table tennis all have more sessions on Monday.
Team GB Watch
Double Olympic gold medallist from London, Charlotte Dujardin is back in action in the dressage on Monday. She is an odds on favourite to land the gold medal. Keri-Anne Payne is in action in the open water swimming while Britain have several medal hopes in the sailing. Team GB women’s hockey team face Spain in the quarter finals where a win would put them one win away from a medal.
Swimming
The 10k open water swim for women takes place on Monday and open is the word for the betting market too with bookmakers going 4/1 the field with the current world and European champion Aurelie Muller the favourite but this is a field stacked in depth and the sheer nature of this race makes me wary about taking the favourite.
Great Britain’s Keri-Anne Payne won this event in its inaugural year back in 2008 in Beijing and was an unlucky fourth in London four years ago. She’ll be eyeing up a medal but the market suggests that could be unlikely which is a shame for the British team.
You can actually make a case for a few of these. Poliana Okimoto and Ana Marcela Cunha will both have home support and be inspired by swimming in a home games while we’ve seen Italy dominate the longer distances in Europe in which case Rachele Bruni has to be a serious contender but it is another European worth backing here.
In last year’s World Championship the Dutch swimmer Sharon von Rouwendaal landed the silver medal behind Muller which was no bad effort and then in the European Championship earlier in the year she looked an emphatic winner of the race until she took a wrong turn which cost her dearly and she ended up in fourth. She had the beating of the likes of Muller and Bruni on that occasion so if she can navigate her way around properly here she might take all the beating.
Gymnastics
It was a record breaking night in the Gymnastics for Britain on Sunday and three more finals take place on Monday although none of the finals involve British interest. Simone Biles is expected to dominate on the Balance Beam while there are warm favourites in the Men’s vault and the rings.
We’ve seen throughout the gymnastics programme that exceptional athletes like Biles aside, favourites have been falling like flies so there isn’t a standout bet that interests us here.
Diving
It is the start of the men’s 3m springboard event on Monday with the British diver Jack Laugher looking to back up his synchro gold with a solo one. We’ll keep our eye on this competition over the coming days although the Chinese are expected to dominate as ever.
Hockey
It is women’s quarter final day on Monday and after the drama of the men’s last eight on Sunday we are set for plenty more here I’m sure. Great Britain are huge favourites to see off Spain which is probably fair enough but it is another match that has grabbed our attention.
We flagged up USA as a bet against Great Britain on Saturday and they looked set to win before a yellow card changed the face of the match and in the end a strong Britain side ran out 2-1 winners but prior to that America had dominated the group whereas Germany really struggled through theirs.
USA are a side on the up both in this tournament and indeed the world rankings heading into the tournament whereas you get the feeling Germany are just on the downgrade. USA have played plenty of matches at this level in 2016 and I’m expecting them to make it into the semi-finals with a win here.
