It is the second day of action in the Shanghai Masters qualifying on Wednesday and the players ranked 33-64 in the world come into the event here. They will play the winners from Tuesday’s matches for a place in the penultimate qualifying round on Thursday.
Morning Session
There are some household names in action on Wednesday with a couple of them coming in the morning session when Mark King and Joe Swail take to the table while Jack LIsowski is another one getting the early alarm to compete.
Tom Ford made the final of the Paul Hunter Classic at the weekend and he’ll begin his quest to qualify for Shanghai in this session too while the likes of Dechawat Poomjaeng, Zhou Yuelong and Jimmy Robertson are among those looking to justify their seeding in this round.
Afternoon Session
Mark Joyce vs James Wattana would look to be one of the headline matches in the afternoon. Thepchaiya Un-Nooh heads to Barnsley off the back a 147 in his run to the semi-final of the Paul Hunter Classic at the weekend and his match with Adam Duffy should be a good watch.
Xiao Guodong, Andrew Higginson, Jamie Jones, Rod Lawler and Kurt Maflin will all look to live up to their world ranking in this afternoon session while Craig Steadman and Andy Hicks will be among those trying to stop them.
Evening Session
Dominic Dale, Ken Doherty and Matthew Stevens are all seasoned professionals who would love another trip to China and if either of them are to achieve that then they will need to win three matches from here but all look to have comfortable opponents.
Rory McLeod, Sam Baird, Mike Dunn and Tian Pengfei are all seeded in this round and they too will be looking to confirm that ranking and pick up wins which would move them to within a couple of wins of making it out to Shanghai.
Betting
I’m not going to go too mad in this second day of action and I’m expecting a few one sided matches and the odds would certainly reflect that too. With the seeds coming in cold and the non-seeds having a match under their belts we might get the odd surprise or two along the way as well which isn’t ideal so I’m going to play safe and take just one bet.
That sees Jamie Cope taking on Nigel Bond. Bond went very well in India although there were times there where he really rode his luck and I think that may well have run out by now. Cope has come through a match this week and did it in fairly impressive fashion and I think he has had a real touch with the draw, one which he can take advantage of.
