The NFC East title could be at stake in the Sunday Night Football in the NFL this week when the Dallas Cowboys head to the MetLife Stadium to take on the only side who have beaten them this season in the New York Giants.
If the Cowboys win this match they will wrap up the NFC East division with three matches left in the campaign while the Giants will move to within two games of Dallas should they win.
New York Giants
The Giants made life a little more difficult for themselves in terms of winning the division when they lost to Pittsburgh last week. They lost Jason Pierre-Paul in that match too which is a blow for their defence but that is the area of the game where they probably have the most depth. They will need all their defensive resources in this match though.
On offense the Giants always seem to find a way to put points up on offense and largely it comes through the insane ability of Odell Beckham Jr. If he has a big game here the Giants will have every chance but at the same time the likes of Sterling Shepard are coming along nicely so Eli Manning certainly won’t be short of options.
Dallas Cowboys
Looking back at it now the defeat to the Giants in the opening week of the season could have been the best thing to have happened to the Cowboys as it toughened them up and made them realise they had to work hard to deliver the goods this season and they have certainly done that, on both sides of the ball.
Much is rightly made of the contributions of Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott but defensively the Cowboys have been a bit suspect recently and there are still some concerns about their secondary which could be a real issue given the level of the opposition here. The lack of a pass rush is another issue.
Betting
I’m expecting a tight game here and I actually fancy the New York Giants to win the game but I’m not brave enough to back that given the run that the Dallas Cowboys are on but unless the Cowboys can find a pass rush and get some pressure on Eli Manning this could be a tough night for the visitors.
The last thing Dallas need to do is give Eli time in the pocket to pick out his receiving options and with the Giants’ run defence pretty solid and the likes of Eli Apple improving all the time in the secondary you would think the game will be decided on whether the Cowboys can pressure Manning. Recent evidence suggests they won’t so I’ll take the home side on the handicap.
