Big Bash League 2016-17 – Adelaide Strikers vs Melbourne Renegades Betting Preview

The Big Bash is back on Monday after a day off for the latest ODI and it returns with a quite simply do or die match for both the Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Renegades when they meet at the Adelaide Oval.

Both sides have two wins for the season so far and fill the bottom two spots in the table and they know whoever loses this will be unable to make the playoffs even though they have a match to play. It is knockout cricket for the first time here.

Adelaide Strikers

Adelaide just haven’t been able to find any consistency all season. On the occasions their batting has fired their bowling has been carted and when the bowling has stood up their light batting line up has been exposed. Now is very much the time for it all to come together otherwise their playoff hopes will be over.

Adelaide showed they can put it together with the ball despite missing some of their best bowlers when they almost recovered a hopeless situation against the Melbourne Stars last time out but the fact they were actually in that position in the first place is a concern. They really need their middle order to finish an innings off.

Melbourne Renegades

Three defeats on the spin have come at the worst possible time for the Melbourne Renegades. In fairness to them their last two defeats have come in the last over in high scoring clashes but that is part of the problem. Their bowling attack which looks so good on paper is not getting the job done and they need to find the root of the issue and put it right.

There has been little wrong with the Renegades batting all season and they delivered their best performance of the season in that area last time out when they bashed Hobart for more than 220 but in a remarkable twist of events that wasn’t good enough to get the win. It might be that the Renegades need to chase to win.

Betting

If the Melbourne Renegades’ bowling attack can fire then I would back them to win the match but it has been a while since they have done that and that has to be a real concern especially with the pressure as high as it is in this match.

Given how high the pressure is though I don’t want to back either side. We know the boundaries are short here though and with the Renegades’ bowling attack leaking runs at a crazy rate the best bet may well come in the sixes market where a 12.5 line looks on the low side. Adelaide are missing their best bowlers so you get the feeling both sides are going to have to get this done with the bat. To do that they can produce at least 13 sixes between them.
