It might be the final day of February but that doesn’t mean there isn’t another midweek set of fixtures in Skybet League 2. It was meant to be a complete set of matches but with Luton’s involvement in the semi-final of the EFL Trophy on Wednesday night we have lost a fixture which means we are left with 11.
Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows:
Accrington Stanley v Wycombe Wanderers
Blackpool v Barnet
Cambridge United v Doncaster Rovers
Cheltenham Town v Carlisle United
Crawley Town v Exeter City
Grimsby Town v Colchester United
Hartlepool United v Crewe Alexandra
Plymouth Argyle v Notts County
Portsmouth v Morecambe
Stevenage v Leyton Orient
Yeovil Town v Mansfield Town
Big Matches
It is a big night for the top three as they look to preserve and enhance their automatic promotion places. Leaders Doncaster make the lengthy trip to Cambridge to take on a Cambridge side back on the up while second placed Plymouth host Notts County. Third placed Carlisle make the seriously long journey to Cheltenham. Portsmouth will be looking to take advantage of any slip ups when they host Morecambe at Fratton Park.
Best of the Rest
With bottom placed Newport not in action Leyton Orient will be looking to put distance between themselves and the Exiles when they head to Stevenage. Exeter and Colchester, in sixth and seventh heading into the round of matches, will look to keep the chasing pack at bay when they head to Crawley and Grimsby respectively.
Betting
I’ve a feeling this is a night when none of the sides at the top are to be trusted. I’ve seen Doncaster and Plymouth in the last week or so and neither stood out as sides about to launch themselves over the line for promotion while Carlisle are in the middle of a right wobble. Portsmouth can never be trusted at home at the best of times let alone when the door to the top three could be open.
There are two bets I like though and both come with home sides I expect to win. There is a pitch inspection at Accrington ahead of their match with Wycombe but if it does go ahead I expect Accrington to win. Wycombe have hit a real slump at the minute. They have lost six of their last seven matches and have injuries galore right now. Accrington have lost just one of their last six and held leaders Doncaster at the weekend. That defeat was at Portsmouth and there is nothing wrong with that. With plenty of draw cover Accrington look a great bet.
Stevenage have finally lit up in recent times with five wins in their last six matches and even the draw at Exeter was a fantastic result so they should be going into their match with Leyton Orient absolutely buzzing. Leyton Orient have lost eight of their last 10 matches with just one in win that time and no matter how many managers come and go they don’t look to be improving. With four home wins on the trot Stevenage are going well right now and they can pick up another win here.
