Things are really getting serious now in Skybet League 2 with just nine matches left of the season for most of the sides and 22 of them will be looking to pick up a vital three points in the latest round of matches on Saturday. The top, playoffs and the bottom will all be under the microscope on Saturday in what should be another dramatic day.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:
Cheltenham Town v Cambridge United
Crewe Alexandra v Colchester United
Grimsby Town v Crawley Town
Hartlepool United v Wycombe Wanderers
Leyton Orient v Doncaster Rovers
Luton Town v Exeter City
Mansfield Town v Carlisle United
Newport County v Blackpool
Plymouth Argyle v Morecambe
Stevenage v Portsmouth
Yeovil Town v Accrington Stanley
Big Matches
The two big matches of the day come in the South where in London troubled Leyton Orient, bottom of the table and seemingly sliding without trace into oblivion host a Doncaster side who are top of the table and are only weeks away from a return to League 1. Stevenage and Portsmouth are both fighting hard for promotion back to League 1 and they meet in a crucial game at Broadhall Way.
Best of the Rest
Two sides hoping Portsmouth slip up meet at Kenilworth Road when Luton host Exeter in what should be a pleasing match on the eye. Plymouth in second host Morecambe while Carlisle in fourth head to Mansfield. Second bottom Newport host a Blackpool side who are firing nicely and making a real charge for the playoffs.
Betting
I like three bets in Saturday’s action with two away sides and an over the order of the day. The first away side is the leaders Doncaster. Leyton Orient have real problems and I’m not sure they’re going to be solved anytime soon. Doncaster are the best team in this league and one of the reasons why is the depth of their squad. They can change personnel without weakening the side too much which is key after a busy week. Orient don’t have that option. They’ve just shipped five at Accrington and I don’t see how they get anything from this. I expect Doncaster to win and win a shade cosily.
The other away side I like is the aforementioned Accrington who travel to Yeovil in blinding form. Their only defeat in their last 10 was at Portsmouth which is no bad thing but they’ve now won their last three without conceding so they are bang on it. Yeovil got a surprising win at Morecambe last weekend but that remains their only win in their last nine matches and it didn’t take long for their heads to go down in their last home match against Luton. Accrington can take advantage of that here.
Speaking of Luton, I’m expecting to see goals at Kenilworth Road when I take my seat for Saturday’s game against Exeter. All four meetings between the two at Luton since the turn of the century have contained more than 2.5 goals and prior to the reverse fixture when Exeter were in awful form and both sides stunk the place out five of the last six in all competitions had contained goals. That is a trend I expect to continue between two open footballing sides in a match neither can afford to lose.
