The first round of the French Open concludes on Tuesday when Day 3 is played out in the men’s and women’s draws at Roland Garros in Paris. We’ve seen some big names in action already in the tournament and we have even more on Tuesday as they look to get their campaigns off in style.
Day 2 Recap
The big names on show on Monday all made it through comfortable with Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Garbine Muguruza all through without dropping a set. There were also wins for Roberto Bautista Agut, David Goffin and Marin Cilic while in the women’s draw Caroline Wozniacki, Kiki Bertens and Karolina Pliskova were among the seeded winners. We did lose Jack Sock and Coco Vandeweghe as seeded players.
Betting wise it was hit and miss for us. Annoying in both matches in the men’s draw our player served for the second set before being broken and losing it on a tiebreak and faded to defeat. Better came with the women though as both bets in that draw won to leave us roughly level for the day.
Philippe Chatrier Court
It is British day on Chatrier on Tuesday with the two British number ones in action. Jo Konta is first up on the court when she takes on Su-Wet Hsieh of Chinese Taipei. The heldover match from Monday between Alexander Zverev and Fernando Verdasco finishes after that before Andy Murray takes to the court to face Andrey Kuznetsov.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga gets his campaign underway in the fourth match on Chatrier on Tuesday when he faces Argentina’s Renzo Olivo before the favourite for the women’s title Simona Halep meets Jana Cepelova.
Suzanne Lenglen Court
The first match on the second show court sees Elina Svitolina going up against Yaroslava Shvedova before the former champion Stan Wawrinka takes on Jozef Kovalik from Slovakia.
Caroline Garcia is likely to be popular with the crowds and she is third up on Lenglen when she meets Nao Hibino from Japan and then the action finishes when two entertainers collide in the form of Dustin Brown and Gael Monfils.
Court 1
Alize Cornet and Timea Babos face off in the first match on Court 1 on Tuesday and then Kei Nishikori is up after that. He takes on Thanasi Kokkinakis before Tomas Berdych and Jan-Lennard Struff compete in the third match up. The final match sees Agnieszka Radwanska beginning her tournament when she faces Fiona Ferro of France.
Court 2
The action begins on Court 2 with an intriguing battle between Philipp Kohlschreiber and Nick Kyrgios before the American star Madison Keys plays Ashleigh Barty of Australia. Jeremy Chardy will look to impress the home crowds when he plays Radu Albot with Eugenie Bouchard ending the day by taking on Risa Ozaki.
Best of the Rest
There are star players on the outside courts on Tuesday too with John Isner, Juan Martin del Potro, Daria Kasatkina and Carlo Suarez Navarro mixed in with other singles matches as well as the start of the doubles draws.

Betting
There are a lot of short priced favourites in the two singles draws on Tuesday so finding bets hasn’t been easy as the majority of them should win but I have found a bet in each draw which I’m hopeful of cashing in on.
Andy Murray hasn’t been playing too well either in 2017 and in particular in this clay court season as a loss of form, illness and injury have regularly set him back and while he might come through against Andrey Kuznetsov I don’t think he is going to win by too comfortable a margin especially on this surface. Kuznetsov may not be the best player in the world but he has clay court wins over competent players in Albert Ramos-Vinolas (who has beaten Murray this season) and Fabio Fognini (who is another to have beaten Murray). Murray could win but I like Kuznetsov to stick within 6.5 games.
In the women’s draw Shuai Peng is favourite to see off Sorana Cirstea but I’m not so sure that is right. Peng won a few matches in Strasbourg last week without really beating anyone but prior to that she hadn’t won a clay court match this year. Cirstea has been in good touch on the clay. She made the quarter finals in Madrid and then the semis in Nuremburg and at odds against she looks the value here.
