Big Matches

The TV game on Wednesday night is the one between New York City FC and Toronto FC which means we get to see David Villa and Sebastian Giovinco in action. Portland Timbers against Real Salt Lake City is a big match in the Western Conference.

Best of the Rest

Two struggling sides meet in Canada when the Montreal Impact take on Philadelphia Union in an all-Eastern Conference battle while the pressure is on the New York Red Bulls host San Jose Earthquakes. Minnesota United host Houston Dynamo in an all-Western Conference match while Los Angeles Galaxy and Vancouver Whitecaps do likewise. The champions Seattle Sounders take on DC United in the other game.

Betting

We have to tread a little bit carefully in these matches because most of the sides still have players on international duty but there are a couple of bets that I do like.

Both New York City and Toronto FC have players away but the main men of Villa and Giovinco are around and the fact that players deeper in the formation are missing could well open this one right up. In fairness it doesn’t need opening up because this fixture is usually very high scoring. I see no reason why it won’t be here so over 3 goals looks the obvious bet in this one.

There is a school of thought that Seattle Sounders are better without either Clint Dempsey or Nicolas Lodeiro because they both take the space each other wants so I fancy the champions to be more settled with Dempsey on international duty. Perhaps more significantly the DC United keeper Bill Hamid is away in the Gold Cup and he’s a huge loss for the visitors. DC haven’t scored a goal in six of the last seven meetings between these two and having lost their last five on the road I don’t expect much of them here either.

Tips
