There is one match in the NatWest T20 Blast on Wednesday as we get nearer to the end of the group stage. Wednesday’s offering comes from the North Group and is a huge match for Lancashire when they play host to Worcestershire at Old Trafford.
Lancashire know if they are to make it into the quarter finals they must win their last two matches and hope a result goes their way along the way. Worcestershire are already out of the competition and are playing purely for pride in this one.
Lancashire
Consistency has been a real issue for Lancashire and the problem with being inconsistent in this tournament is inevitably when the weather does catch up with you it leaves you vulnerable and that is the case for the Lightning now. They know the score which is a positive and means they can focus the mind on winning their last two matches but it is not ideal.
One of the issues Lancashire have had is putting their batting together. When the unit fires as one they look a very good side but when they fail to build partnerships they can struggle to make the scores needed to be competitive in what has been a very high scoring group so far. They will need to bat well here.
Worcestershire
I would imagine Worcestershire will be disappointed with their form in this tournament but putting it simply they have not been able to stem the flow of runs this season and when you are unable to do that you are always in more than a spot of bother and so it has proved. They have lost their last three matches now and look a beaten side.
While we must acknowledge their efforts with the bat across the campaign as a whole it is bowlers who win matches in this format of the game and the Rapids have not had enough wicket takers in their ranks or bowlers who can bowl economical spells to build pressure and that is a bad combination.
Team News
Lancashire are likely to be unchanged from their defeat at Headingley on Friday night although it remains to be seen if they switch their batting order back to something more normal.
Worcestershire have named an unchanged squad for this match. Ravi Ashwin has been signed for the Championship only so they will have just the one overseas player which is Mitchell Santner after John Hastings went back to Australia injured recently.

Betting
If I am honest there isn’t a lot I liked in this match when I looked into it. I would have taken a chance on the sixes on what is no longer the biggest ground at Old Trafford and after a recent Test match here I would imagine they will be playing on the edge of the square.
Unfortunately the forecast is rotten for match time which makes betting on the match difficult. If as the day goes along the forecast improves I probably will take the overs on the sixes as I anticipate a shorter boundary somewhere but if it doesn’t this is one to keep the powder dry on and wait for the final two nights of action.
