The Indian Open concludes on Saturday with the semi-finals which is followed soon after by the final and it is fair to say that we have a surprising final four after what has been a week of shocks and surprises in Visakhapatnam.
The two semi-finals will be over the best of seven frames in the morning session of the final day with the final in the afternoon session. As ever with these type of tournaments the schedule means we will be unable to preview the final but we have an outright bet still running so hopefully we will have an interest in it. We can preview the semis though and we’ll do them in start time order.

Anthony McGill vs Mark King
The defending champion Anthony McGill has made it through to the final day in his title defence where he will take on a Mark King who is hoping for a big last push to land his second ranking event victory.
McGill has cruised through to this stage of the tournament dropping just three frames in his five matches thus far while King has had to work much harder despite playing two fewer matches. He has had the tougher draw to make it this far to be fair.
These two met in the Six Red World Championship last week which McGill won in a deciding frame which means that their last four matches have gone the distance. Given that both look to be playing well it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this one go all the way too.
I’m already on McGill at effectively 14/1 having backed him outright so I don’t need to get involved here. I will just sit back and hope that he comes through.
Xu Si vs John Higgins
The second semi-final sees a man who is used to winning ranking events and playing in major semi-finals in John Higgins taking on a Chinese youngster who is at this level of an event of this kind for the very first time.
To call Si a surprise package would be an understatement. Prior to arriving in India the only previous win he had achieved on the tour came in the qualifying match for the event. That said he has played well and held his nerve nicely in coming through thus far.
He hasn’t faced anything of Higgins’ ability in the competition so far though. Not only is Higgins a step above in quality but he is definitely a level above in terms of competitiveness and experience as well as snooker knowhow. I expect that to show in the end scoreline.
