2017-18 Sky Bet League 2 – Saturday 23rd December Matches Betting Preview

After an exciting Friday night match we are left with 11 matches on Saturday as the final action in Sky Bet League 2 prior to Christmas takes place. The top three are all in action on Saturday with three big points up for grabs to kick off a hectic 10 days in the division.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:

Accrington Stanley v Crawley Town

Barnet v Cheltenham Town

Colchester United v Port Vale

Crewe Alexandra v Swindon Town

Forest Green Rovers v Carlisle United

Luton Town v Grimsby Town

Mansfield Town v Morecambe

Newport County v Lincoln City

Notts County v Cambridge United

Stevenage v Chesterfield

Yeovil Town v Exeter City

Big Matches

The leaders Luton Town host Grimsby Town knowing that if they avoid defeat at Kenilworth Road the Hatters will tuck into their turkey on top of the table. Notts County host Cambridge looking to keep up with Luton while third placed Exeter make the trip to Yeovil aiming to put space between them and the chasing pack. Lincoln head to Newport for a match between two sides in or around the play-off places.

Best of the Rest

Pre-season title favourites Mansfield Town host Morecambe in a match they really need to win for form going into Christmas as much as anything. At the other end of the table Forest Green host a Carlisle side who will be making a ridiculous journey for this time of year. Colchester host Port Vale in a match between two improving sides.

Betting

I don’t think this is the easiest card of the season but with four rounds of matches in 10 days we don’t need to force anything. With that in mind I will go with just the one bet for the day.

That is on Chesterfield who were in a real good run of form prior to their defeat at Wycombe last week. I don’t think a loss to Wycombe is the end of the world though with only the top four sides picking up more points at home than Wycombe. The Spireites head to Stevenage who are eight matches without a win which is a spell covering almost two months which clearly isn’t good. Chesterfield’s league position is false given the quality in their squad so we shouldn’t be surprised that prior to last week’s loss they were unbeaten in six.

In that six match spell Mansfield, Swindon and Exeter failed to beat Jack Lester’s men and without a win in eight it is unlikely Stevenage will do that. I think Chesterfield on the Asian lines is the way forward here.

Tips

Back Chesterfield (+0.25AH) to beat Stevenage for a 4/10 stake at 1.89 with BetVictor
