Big Bash League 2017-18 – Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers Betting Preview

There is one match for us to enjoy in the Big Bash League on Thursday and it comes from Sydney where the Sydney Thunder and the Perth Scorchers continue their season at the Sydney Showground.

This is probably a bigger match for the Thunder than it is for the Scorchers. Perth are already joint top of the table while the Thunder have been cut adrift of the leading pack and need a win to get back on terms.

Sydney Thunder

It has been an up and down campaign for the Sydney Thunder but their struggles to put both main facets of the game together have cost them dearly. It took too long for their batting order to get going this season but when they did they generally won matches although having gained form they went back into their shells again.

The bright spot for the Sydney outfit has been their bowlers and their spinners especially. They have bowled well, particularly on this ground, so that can give them some comfort heading into this one. If they can perform with the bat to the level that we have seen on occasion that they can then they might pull off something of an upset.

Perth Scorchers

It is the Big Bash season so it goes without saying that the Perth Scorchers are riding high and once again they look like the side to beat. The amazing thing about them this season is that they are having players called away to international duty but they are still getting results. That is to the credit of everyone involved.

It doesn’t seem to matter who represents them in the bowling department they seem to take have the ability to take wickets and to restrict opposition. The real appealing thing for the Perth team this year has been with the bat. They have been without three first choice batsmen all season so far but younger players have stepped up and made names for themselves.

Team News

We have reached that part of the season where the Test players return and the ODI players leave which means the Sydney Thunder will be without Jos Buttler from now on. Usman Khawaja returns to the squad while James Vince takes over the overseas role.

Perth Scorchers will get Cameron Bancroft back in their ranks but they will now lose David Willey, Andrew Tye and Jhye Richardson. Tim Bresnan has arrived again to finish the season with the overseas spots.

Betting

I’ve a feeling the Perth Scorchers are a big price here but with them losing so many bowlers I will watch them for a match rather than backing them, especially as the Sydney Thunder get a couple of big batsmen back for the fixture.

The bet that I like comes in the player performances where Ashton Turner has a line which is very low at 27.5. He has covered this with the bat three times in his six matches this season but I fancy he might get a bowl here with Adam Voges needing to find some overs to compensate for the loss of the three bowlers he will be without. We’ve seen Turner in the fielding positions that catches come along in so there is every chance he will have three scoring methods. I fancy he’ll reach 28 with the bat but with the back up options on top I think he covers that line.

Tips

Back A.Turner’s Performance – Over 27.5pts for a 4/10 stake at 1.83 with Paddy Power
