The Romanian Masters has been played down to the last four and both semi-finals take place on Saturday across two sessions of action. We have left the first format behind and are now up to the best of nine frames so there is a little more wriggle room for the players involved now.
It is fair to say that the four men we have remaining are not necessarily the four many would have expected to be at this stage given the strength of the field that started out but that should only mean we have a pair of competitive semi-finals.

Afternoon Session
Stuart Bingham vs Ali Carter
The opening semi-final is a battle of the Englishmen as the former world champion Stuart Bingham takes on a man who has twice lost in the final of the big one in Ali Carter. The first to five frames will make the final on Sunday.
Bingham was my outright pick for this tournament and it might be that he is playing with the house money given that he came from needing a snooker in the deciding frame of his first match against Neil Robertson. He blew Liang Wenbo away in the quarter final. Carter meanwhile showed his battling qualities in the last eight when he took care of Stephen Maguire in a deciding frame.
I’m happy enough to let my Bingham outright run here and if he is successful then the place part of the bet will have landed. I told myself I wasn’t going to have many bets this week. If I was betting here I’d chance the overs in frames but the Bingham outright is enough interest for me.

Evening Session
Ryan Day vs Kyren Wilson
The second semi-final of the tournament sees last week’s winner in Gibraltar, Ryan Day, continue his quest for back-to-back tournament wins when he takes on The Masters finalist Kyren Wilson for a place in the final.
Day has not been scoring as heavily so far in this event as he did in Gibraltar but nobody can argue with him beating Barry Hawkins and John Higgins with a good degree of comfort. Wilson has also taken care of a couple of high profile opponents when he saw off Mark Allen and Judd Trump to get to this stage.
Both men appear on the face of it to be playing some nice snooker and both are known for digging in when they need to. Although they are successful players neither have won enough to pass up a shot at winning this on Sunday so I expect this to be extremely competitive and with that in mind over 7.5 frames looks the way to go here.
