2017-18 Premier League – Saturday 5th May Betting Preview

After a wonderful story in the Friday Night Football, the penultimate weekend in the Premier League continues on Saturday with six more matches over the course of what could be a pivotal and defining day for many, particularly those at the bottom end of the table.

We could well lose our first team down to the Championship on Saturday and the picture could become a lot clearer on who will join them on a day where there is three different kick off times as ever.

Early Kick Off

Arguably the biggest match of the afternoon comes from the Bet365 Stadium where Stoke City take on Crystal Palace in what is simply a must win match for the home side. If they fail to win here and either Southampton or Swansea get a result later in the day then Stoke will be heading back to the Championship. Crystal Palace are pretty much safe but could yet finish in the top half which would be some achievement.

3pm Matches

That Swansea match sees them heading to Dorset to take on a Bournemouth side who may already be on the beach. West Ham need a few points to be assured of their safety in the Premier League and they will look to get three of them when they head to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester who aren’t going anywhere. Two sides safe enough meet at Vicarage Road when Watford host Newcastle while West Brom have to win when they play Tottenham at The Hawthorns and pray results go their way elsewhere to remain in the hunt of surviving on the final day.

Late Game

A huge day in the Premier League ends at Goodison Park where Sam Allardyce will want his Everton side to end their home campaign with a win to attempt to win over the fans a little more than he has managed to. This is a big match because their opponents are Southampton who will come out of the bottom three if they can pick up the win themselves. Defeat could leave them stranded in the bottom three with just two matches left.

Betting

I’m going to go with one bet over the course of Saturday and we have to wait right until the end of the day for it as I like Everton as outsiders against Southampton. I give credit to Mark Hughes for getting Southampton back in the survival picture when they looked gone but Sam Allardyce and his team lie down for nobody and I don’t expect that to start here.

Everton are very tough to beat on their own patch. They have won 10 of their 18 matches at Goodison Park this season with both Manchester clubs, Burnley, Arsenal and Tottenham the only clubs to have won on Merseyside this term. Southampton are not in that league and while Everton may not be playing for much that hasn’t stopped them beating Newcastle and Huddersfield recently. All of a sudden there is a bit of quality at the front end of the park for Everton which makes them dangerous. This might end a draw which would get us our money back but given their home record and the fact Southampton have only won two on the road all season – and one of them was at West Brom – I think the Toffees look good things on the Asian lines.
