The first round of matches in the UEFA Nations League draws to a close on Saturday and there are some tasty looking clashes among them too. We’ve seen a competitive opening two evenings in the competition and I’m expecting no different on Saturday.
England open up their campaign on Saturday night in one of seven matches on the card across the various groups. They kick off at different times so we can enjoy the action right throughout the day.
Group A
There are two matches in Group A on Saturday. The early kick off among them comes from A2 where Switzerland host Iceland in a battle of two sides who have been to the last two major tournaments and will want a third. Then it is all about A4 where England get their tournament underway when they host Spain at Wembley.
Group B
There is just the one match in this group on Saturday and it is the first match of the day as it happens. Northern Ireland made it to the last European Championship and they will be itching to make the 2020 version too. They host Bosnia-Herzegovina at Windsor Park in a tight looking match to begin their campaign.
Group C
There are two matches in Group C on Saturday and they both come from the C2 section which looks a pretty competitive one it has to be said. Finland play host to Hungary in the earlier of the two games while Estonia then host the group favourites Greece in the second game of an important night for these four sides.
Group D
There are two matches in this group on Saturday as well and they both come from D2 where Belarus will be looking to make a fast start when they play host to San Marino in the early kick off before Luxembourg look to showcase their recent improvement when they host Moldova in what looks a trappy match for the visitors.

Betting
I’m expecting a low scoring match in Northern Ireland but the betting markets are all clued up on that now so I’ll be looking elsewhere for my bets on Saturday evening. I was tempted to play something in the England game but not tempted enough. There is one I like though.
Greece were beaten in the play-offs in World Cup qualifying so on that basis they are probably in the wrong group down in Group C and I expect them to show that when they take on Estonia. In Kostas Mitroglou they have the standout player on the pitch but they look a lot stronger defensively too. They ran into a rampant Croatia in World Cup qualifying but that result doesn’t look at all bad now. They are getting better and can open up their campaign with a victory in Estonia.
