MLS 2018 – DC United vs Minnesota United Betting Preview

There is one match in Major League Soccer on Wednesday night and for DC United it is one of the biggest matches of the season. They entertain Minnesota United in a cross-conference battle knowing the importance of a win.

Should they come out on top they will move to within two points of a play-off spot with a game in hand of Montreal who occupy the final place. Minnesota are playing the role of party poopers here.

DC United

If momentum gets you places in sport then DC United are going places. To be fair since Wayne Rooney arrived and Audi Field opened there have not been many better teams in MLS than DC. Their home form in particular has been a strength and they have come from the clouds to be genuine play-off contenders.

DC United go into the match having won five of their last six at home with the only defeat in that time coming against Philadelphia Union who at the time were in pretty decent nick. DC have plenty of goals in them especially on their own patch and with Bill Hamid back in between the sticks you would expect their defensive record to improve.

Minnesota United

It is going to be a second disappointing season in Major League Soccer for Minnesota United. Last term they could be excused or forgiven for struggling as it was their first campaign but this time around they have few excuses, particularly as the Western Conference is a whole lot weaker than it was last year.

Minnesota go into this match off the back of a run which has seen them lose four of their last five matches with the only break in that run coming against Los Angeles Galaxy, who aren’t exactly a brilliant form guide right now. Away from home Minny have been little short of pathetic, picking up just four points in 13 matches and shipping 35 goals in that time.

Team News

DC United are going to be without a number of players in this match with it being international week. Zoltan Stieber, Junior Moreno and Bruno Miranda are away with their countries while Taylor Kemp, Nick DeLeon and David Ousted are out injured. Yamil Asad is rated questionable for this game.

Minnesota United will be without the suspended duo Michael Boxall and Francisco Calvo while Romario Ibarra and Rasmus Schuller are on international duty. Sam Cronin, Kevin Molino and Ethan Finlay are out with injury while Darwin Quintero is questionable.

Betting

I think DC United should be good things here. They are very strong at home and they are in good form unlike Minnesota United who are ridiculously bad on the road and are not exactly pulling up trees anywhere right now.

DC United have taken on arguably the best two in the Eastern Conference over the last week or so and they have come out with creditable results in both matches, the latter of which against New York City FC being without their international players. That makes me think they can comfortably cover a 1.25 handicap here.
