Europe remain in control of the Ryder Cup heading into the final day of the competition on Sunday. After two days of paired golf in fourballs and foursomes formats it is straight out mano e mano with 12 singles matches being played in Paris to determine where the cup goes.
Europe lead 10-6 heading into the final session of action and need just 4.5 of the 12pts on offer to regain the cup while America need eight of the 12 to keep hold of it and 8.5 to win this competition outright. We’re all set for a tasty Sunday.

First Six Matches
The best player America have had to offer opens up for them in the first match of the day when Justin Thomas faces Rory McIlroy in a blockbuster match. Paul Casey then gets a shot at the US Open and USPGA champion Brooks Koepka before Justin Rose and Webb Simpson will look to put on a ball striking clinic in what could yet be a big third match of the morning.
The fourth match sees two men looking for their first point of the competition going at it when Jon Rahm takes on Tiger Woods before a battle of the classy rookies as Tommy Fleetwood takes on the US wildcard Tony Finau. The last match onto the course in the first half of matches sees the Postman, Ian Poulter looking to deliver another point against the world number one Dustin Johnson.
Second Six Matches
We head into territory where the winning putt could be holed now with Thorbjorn Olesen hoping he will have the chance to do it. He takes on Jordan Spieth who remains in search of a first singles point in professional team golf. Former Masters champion Sergio Garcia then takes on Rickie Fowler before The Open winner Francesco Molinari goes in search of a perfect week when he faces Phil Mickelson.
It remains to be seen what will be on the final three matches on the schedule but Tyrrell Hatton will play his first singles match against The Masters champion Patrick Reed while two more former major champions tee off in the penultimate match of the competition when Henrik Stenson battles with Bubba Watson. The final match of the Ryder Cup sees Open de France winner Alex Noren facing Bryson DeChambeau in a contest which will ensure a very dramatic day if this is still live deep into the back nine.

Betting
We are betting draw no bet with most of the firms on Sunday which I’m fine with because Europe could easily have this thing wrapped up early in the day. I am attacking the final day with four bets in the hope of keeping a 100% record intact. Better ball strikers and putters are the order of the day.
Justin Rose is probably a better ball striker and putter than Webb Simpson but the FedEx Cup champion looks in massive need of a rest to me. He had one on Saturday morning but was pretty average in the afternoon. It is criminal how little we’ve seen of Webb Simpson this week. He is probably the only American truly suited to this course. Thomas Bjorn himself has likened this course to TPC Sawgrass and Simpson took the field apart there earlier in the year. If Rose comes out jaded he could get a going over here.
Two undefeated men meet when Ian Poulter takes on Dustin Johnson but this week I have to be with the Englishman. Dustin Johnson has looked disinterested for much of the week and like he is there in body but not spirit. His putting has been truly woeful and if Poulter keeps the ball in play off the tee and turns this into a putting contest then from what we’ve seen so far this weekend he is the only one who can win this match. I’m fully against DJ here.
A lot will be made of the fact that Jordan Spieth has never won a singles match either at a Ryder Cup or a Presidents Cup and I’ll have a little dabble on Thorbjorn Olesen to keep that run going. Olesen will have a point to prove here having only played one round on the opening morning but that at least means he’ll be fresh. If he keeps it in play off the tee he has the match play credentials to go with Spieth and if the pressure is bang on the American he could crack again. Graeme DeLaet, Graeme McDowell, Marc Leishman, Henrik Stenson and Jhonattan Vegas have all beaten Spieth in singles play. Olesen is overpriced to join that list.
My final bet of the Ryder Cup will be on Tyrrell Hatton to see off Patrick Reed. Reed turned up to this Ryder Cup as did all of his gear but his golf game never came with him. He’s been horrendous and in truth he’s played poorly for a while. Hatton has been wonderful this week. He has embraced the competition and he has that competitive steel to get stuck right in here. More importantly he has the game to as well and he can end a thoroughly rotten week for Reed by taking a singles point from him too.
