2018 Players Championship Finals Darts – Quarter Finals Betting Preview

The Players Championship Finals concludes on Sunday on what is another extremely busy day as we find out the winner of the Grand Finals of the tour events that form much of the year. The quarter finals, semis and the final will all be played across the two sessions of action in Minehead.

As ever with this tournament we have had a number of shocks and surprises but a couple of big names have made it through to the final day so we are in for an interesting conclusion to this tournament. Once again time restrictions will deny us the chance to preview the evening session but we’ll look at the afternoon quarter finals.

Daryl Gurney vs Chris Dobey

Two men who will be eyeing up a deep run on at Sunday are Daryl Gurney and Chris Dobey and they meet in the first of the four quarter finals on the main stage on Sunday afternoon. This will be their third meeting with a win apiece in the past two.

Both these men enjoyed good wins in the last 16. Gurney averaged over a ton in beating countryman Brendan Dolan while Dobey saw off the challenge of the in form James Wade so both are entitled to fancy their chances here. History would be on the side of Gurney with his experience in the latter stages of these tournaments but this one in particular has launched many a career.

I fancy we’ll see a close match here. Both men really do have a great opportunity to go deep in this tournament now and that should ensure they both deliver their best. With that in mind I think the best way to play this could be to take over 16.5 legs. Gurney may well justify favouritism but to win by four legs would be asking a lot against a consistent Dobey.

Stephen Bunting vs Danny Noppert

Two men best known for their exploits on the Lakeside stage meet in the second quarter final as Stephen Bunting and Danny Noppert look to take another step towards a first PDC televised final when they do battle.

Bunting saw off Peter Wright in the last 16 which was a big win for him while Noppert ended the run of Ratajski in what was also a good result so these two look to be playing some nice darts and so with that in mind this is another match that I fancy could end up being very close. Both men are quite evenly matched and as with the first game, given the opportunity they both have I’m not expecting either to run away with this one. Over 16.5 legs looks the way forward here too.

Gary Anderson vs Jonny Clayton

The third match of the quarter finals sees arguably the player of the year in Gary Anderson taking on the man who was a runner up here 12 months ago and who will be looking to go one step further this time around in Jonny Clayton.

Both these players have looked in fine form over the course of the tournament so far. Anderson has looked better than fine actually, he has been awesome, but we saw at the Grand Slam of Darts last week that Clayton is in excellent form and he has continued to show that this week with Michael Smith already among his victims.

I’m on Clayton to win this match at 16/1 having backed him to win his quarter before a dart was thrown this week. I don’t need to take anything else as that is more than enough for me in this match.

Michael van Gerwen vs Steve Lennon

The defending champion Michael van Gerwen is yet to face a player ranked in the top 32 in the world and he isn’t facing one in the quarter final either as Irish player Steve Lennon is his opponent in the last eight.

Van Gerwen has breezed into this quarter final as you would have expected him to do given his draw and now that he is here he will be a warm favourite to progress to the semi-final. It is hard to argue with that too. Lennon played well in the last 16 to be fair to him but MVG over 19 legs is a different thing entirely. The Dutchman will win this. It is just a question of by how many. I’m not sure of the answer to that question though so I’ll sit this one out.
