The final match of a dramatic and entertaining Divisional Round weekend in the NFL playoffs concludes at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome as the New Orleans Saints take on the defending champions Philadelphia Eagles for the right to face the Los Angeles Rams next week.
The Saints dominated the regular season to become the number one seed in the NFC while the Eagles lived a dangerous life to make it into the postseason, but as we saw last year, they know what they are doing now they are here.
New Orleans Saints
The best side in the NFC over the course of the regular season was the New Orleans Saints but the longer the campaign went on the more things became a bit of a struggle for them offensively, so the two week break to take stock of everything and gear themselves up to go again might have come at just the right time for them.
The good part of their run to the end of the regular season was the form of their defence and that is going to be vital in this playoff run because they will not want to be involved in a bunch of shootouts to make it to Atlanta. If their offense doesn’t recover their form for whatever reason then they are going to have to stand up to things defensively.
Philadelphia Eagles
We are running out of words to use for this campaign of the Philadelphia Eagles. They are living on a knife edge but to be alive to tell the tale and still be fighting gives them every chance here. They could be forgiven for thinking that with everything that is happening their name could be written on the trophy once again because this run is bordering on insane.
The one thing I’ve discovered in all my time as a sports fan is these teams that cling on by their fingertips slowly get more and more belief and just when you least expect it they deliver a huge performance against the odds. Philadelphia will need to do that here, especially defensively, but they don’t have to look too far back in their history for signs that it is possible.

Betting
I think the run of the Philadelphia Eagles will end here because I just see the New Orleans Saints being too strong but I’m not convinced they will go down without a fight. In fact I don’t think they will go without a fight and with that in mind I’m happy enough to take them with the large looking start that they receive.
It would be taking fairy tales and sporting stories to a new level if Philadelphia make it to Los Angeles next week and in sport anything can happen but I get the impression New Orleans are right up for this. That said, it is all about just winning for the Saints and so the 8.5 point start that the visitors receive is a couple of points too big. I’ll take them with that start.
