2018-19 Indian Open Snooker – Day 2 Betting Preview

The second day of action in the Indian Open is another full day on the green baize as the first round of the tournament draws to a close out in Kochi on Thursday. Those who came through their held over matches and those yet to play make up a good looking schedule.

Wednesday saw wins for Stuart Bingham, Shaun Murphy, John Higgins and Jack Lisowski with the latter three all back in action for their first round matches on Thursday, along with a host of other men looking to make it into the second round.

Morning Session

Luca Brecel is up first on the main table when he headlines the opening set of three games in the arena on Thursday morning. He faces Ian Burns with the streamed table showing Dave Gilbert’s first round clash with Elliot Slessor. There are two other matches to begin with in the morning. Hossein Vafaei meets Dominic Dale and Luke Simmonds takes on Mei Xi Wen.

European Masters champion Jimmy Robertson is on one of the main tables in the second round of games on Thursday morning. He faces Scott Donaldson while Graeme Dott will be on the streamed table when he plays the fast improving Alexander Ursenbacher. Mark Davis is on show in this session. He plays Paul Davison with the other match seeing Andrew Higginson meeting Digvijay Kadian.

The main table in the final set of games in the morning session is a repeat of Sunday night’s Shootout final when Thepchaiya Un-Nooh goes up against a Michael Holt who will be after a bit of revenge. Peter Ebdon will face Ben Woollaston in the other match to be streamed. The two other matches in the session sees Yuan Sijun meeting Thor Chuan Leong and Craig Steadman facing Zhang Yong.

Afternoon Session

Shaun Murphy will be the main focus of attention first up in the later session. He has a main table meeting with Lee Walker while on the streamed table Zhou Yuelong and Lyu Haotian will do battle in a Chinese tussle. Another player from China is in action elsewhere in the arena when Zhao Xintong meets Sam Baird while Andy Hicks also plays Li Yuan.

John Higgins and Jack Lisowski will headline the last set of games on the second day of the tournament. Higgins continues his title defence against German Masters semi-finalist Duane Jones while Lisowski meets Joe Swail. The other two matches see Rory McLeod facing Anthony Hamilton in a war of attrition and Chris Wakelin playing Stuart Carrington in what could be a sneaky good match.

Betting

After a pair of winners on Wednesday I’m going with a pair of bets for Thursday with the first one coming in the shape of Scott Donaldson who has a decent record against Jimmy Robertson. These two have met on three occasions and Donaldson has won the lot. His run to the quarter final of the Welsh Open means that he comes here in decent form too which you can’t say about Robertson. He has been very quiet since he won the European Masters so at odds against Donaldson looks the way forward here.

I’ll also have a punt on Rory McLeod to come through what is unlikely to be a match to watch unless you are a true purest of the game. This has all the hallmarks of being a right scrappy encounter but that might be no bad thing for McLeod who is well rehearsed in those kind of games. Hamilton has no form at all to speak of and while he is the classier of the two players I can see him getting bogged down. I think a small bet on McLeod to come through here is the way forward.
