Saturday is another busy day of action at the Indian Open where the 16 remaining men in the tournament get whittled down to just four as two rounds of action take place out in Kochi ahead of the conclusion on Sunday.
There was always a feeling that this tournament could open right up and with the departures of the likes of Joe Perry and Shaun Murphy on Friday that is exactly what happened. There might be a lack of stellar names on show on Saturday but there should be no shortage of competitive matches. Time restraints will mean we can’t preview the quarter finals but we’ll go through the last 16 games which kick off the day.
First Four Matches
Two men standout in the opening four matches on Saturday. They are John Higgins and Stuart Bingham and they will both be on the streamed tables first up. Higgins faces James Cahill while Bingham has to come past Lu Ning for a place in the quarter finals. The other two matches see Li Hang going up against Sam Craigie while Andy Hicks faces Lu Haotian for a spot in the last eight of a ranking event.
Later Four Matches
Our one remaining pre-tournament bet heads up the second set of matches in this last 16 round as Luca Brecel takes on Scott Donaldson for a place in the last eight. That will be on one of the main tables with former world champion Graeme Dott on the other. He meets the English Open finalist Mark Davis in an appealing match. Matt Selt will look to continue his good form when he plays Oliver Lines on one of the other tables with Anthony Hamilton meeting Chris Wakelin in the other contest.

Betting
I’ll go with one bet in the last 16 which comes in the first set of matches where I think Li Hang can come through against Sam Craigie. I like Craigie but I noted at the Shootout how well the Chinese player was hitting the ball and if I needed it confirming for me he certainly did that in the last round when he finished off with back to back centuries to see off Joe Perry.
Craigie has beaten some good opponents this week so far in Liang Wenbo and Peter Ebdon but Hang is one of those who is easy to go under the radar and I think that is what has happened. You would expect a close match at this stage of the tournament and I think this will be just that but I expect the player from China to prevail in the end.
