The next round of matches in the Super League kicks off with the leaders Castleford Tigers in action. The head to the Halliwell Jones Stadium to take on the Warrington Wolves in a clash between the last two beaten sides in the Grand Final.
Both sides have made excellent beginnings to the season and will be looking to maintain their early form when they do battle, with the chance to put a little bit of early campaign scoreboard pressure on the remainder of the chasing pack.
Warrington Wolves
You could be forgiven for thinking that Warrington Wolves had actually won the Grand Final last year given the start they have made to this season. There has certainly been no hangover that can be suffered from such a disappointment. They have picked up three wins and were only edged out by a point in France last week else they would have had a 100% record to fall back on going into this encounter.
If there has been a concern over the start of the season it has been that they haven’t looked fantastic defensively. Admittedly this is quite an attacking league but it remains an advantage if you can defend well, as Wigan Warriors showed last season. The flip side of that is the Wolves have put up more than 20pts in each of their matches so there is little wrong with their attacking play.
Castleford Tigers
The Castleford Tigers have actually made an even better start to their campaign. They have won all four matches they have contested this season and are beginning to look like they might put in the sort of run which took them to the Grand Final a couple of terms ago. They have their free flowing brand of rugby functioning well which is to their credit given the talk before the season of dressing room unrest.
Castleford are yet to concede 20pts in a single match this season and in their last two outings they have put up 72pts. You would have to balance those statistics by highlighting that in terms of records and things they haven’t played anyone better than Hull FC but in sport you can only beat what is in front of you and the Tigers have done that quite nicely.
Team News
Warrington Wolves have named an unchanged squad for this encounter with Ben Westwood looking to force his way back in having missed the last three matches, two of which were due to suspension earlier in the campaign.
Castleford Tigers have lost Grant Millington to a suspension of his own but they do have Alex Foster and Adam Milner back in their ranks as their lengthy injury list begins to ease a little. Seven players do still remain on the sidelines.

Betting
Castleford Tigers have a very good recent record against the Warrington Wolves, with four wins in the last five meetings between the two sides and I see no discernible reason why that run can’t continue here. Clearly this is the toughest test for both sides this term and we might find out a little more about how strongly both teams could challenge this season, but Castleford look a shade underrated to me.
The Tigers are getting eight points on the handicap here and that is clearly too much in my eyes. Warrington might win this but to suggest they will win it by eight just a few days after a very tough battle in France might be pushing it a little I would suggest. Castleford deserve a little more credit than that but I’m happy they are not getting it. I’ll take the Tigers with the eight points.
