The second Saturday of the IPL season sees the third round of matches in the campaign beginning with a double header which starts in Mohali where the Kings XI Punjab goes up against the Mumbai Indians for another two points.
Both sides have made encouraging starts to the season and a win here will have whoever gets in very good shape in the initial stages of the campaign. That should ensure we get a competitive opener to the action in Mohali this term.
Kings XI Punjab
It has not been without a good deal of controversy but the Kings XI Punjab have begun their season with a win and a loss although in truth there is more than half a chance they would have two losses on their slate had the Mankad incident not taken place. That was regrettable but had the desired effect in turning a sure fire defeat into a victory.
They were never really in the hunt in their second match against the Kolkata Knight Riders but the positive to come out of that loss was the fact that a couple of potentially useful batsmen going forward got some time in the middle and found some form, which could be invaluable when the close matches come around later in the campaign.
Mumbai Indians
It looked like being a typical Mumbai Indians start to the season when they were thrashed by the Delhi Daredevils in their opening match and well on the way to losing their second game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, however some wonderful death bowling and extremely questionable batting, got Mumbai over the line and they will look to build on that in this encounter.
We still haven’t seen anything like the best of the Mumbai Indians batting line but you would think we are going to need to see them close to their best if they are going to escape this one with a win. The good thing is that in the main their bowling attack has looked decent enough and if they can bowl well here they would appear to have every chance.
Team News
On this bigger ground you would think that Mujeeb Ur Rahman will return for the Kings XI in this one with Varun Chakravarthy potentially dropping out having offered nothing with the bat and showing little threat with the ball.
Mumbai Indians have no reason to change their side and as such it will be a surprise if they do make changes unless there is an injury or an illness that has been unidentified ahead of the contest. If they do change Suryakumar Yadav could be vulnerable.

Betting
We’ve seen the Kings XI Punjab offer up a couple of indifferent performances with the new ball so far in this tournament and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Mumbai Indians pull away from them early doors either. We know that this Chandigarh ground is like. If you beat the infield here it is gone in the first six overs so I can see Mumbai putting up a decent six over total.
Their six over runs target heading into this one is 50.5 and I fancy that can be covered. The Rajasthan Royals made 64 against the Punjab outfit and then Kolkata barely played a shot in anger apart from one over and notched 52 against them. Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav and Yuvraj Singh all score quickly so I see Mumbai going past this total.
