For 16 men the biggest day of the year has arrived as they will come through the final round of World Championship qualifying on Judgement Day at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on Wednesday.
All 16 matches have had their first sessions played out and on Wednesday the matches will conclude with the winners of these games making it through to face a seeded player in the first round of the World Championship at the Crucible Theatre from Saturday.
Day 7 Recap
We went with three bets in the final round and on Tuesday they built a platform with Li Hang leading Ben Woollaston 5-4 after originally trailing him 3-0. Lu Haotian is 5-4 up on Mark Davis and will hopefully build on that. The one bet that isn’t quite going to plan at the minute is the John Astley one. He has half the six frames he needs for us but Carter still leads him 6-3 so that is in the balance.
We also have a couple of outrights running for us over the course of the two days as well. It is fair to say that we are struggling with Matthew Stevens. He will have to overturn a massive 7-2 deficit but Scott Donaldson holds the same advantage over Lu Ning and should make it through to the Crucible from that position.

Morning Session
Only two of the matches in the morning session don’t have a 5-4 scoreline. Robert Milkins has one foot inside the Crucible as he leads Anthony McGill 7-2 and the other match sees James Cahill resuming 6-3 up on Michael Judge in the battle of the amateurs with the golden price at stake for whoever comes out on top.
The other matches are all 5-4 and could have plenty of mileage in them. Gary Wilson leads Liang Wenbo, Martin Gould is up by that score against Daniel Wells, Michael Georgiou takes that lead into the second session against Yan Bingtao, Zhou Yuelong leads Eden Sharav, Lu Haotian heads Mark Davis and Thepchaiya Un-Nooh leads Joe O’Connor by that score.
Afternoon Session
Matches in this session are a little clearer looking. Tian Pengfei heads Matthew Stevens 7-2, Graeme Dott is also 7-2 ahead heading into the final session against Kurt Maflin. Scott Donaldson is 7-2 up on Lu Ning and Zhao Xintong is 7-2 ahead of Matt Selt. It will be interesting to see if all four hold onto their advantage or if someone has a comeback in him.
Ali Carter is 6-3 ahead of John Astley and Joe Perry leads Martin O’Donnell by the same score. The other two matches are both 5-4, one of which involve a bet of ours with Li Hang 5-4 up on Ben Woollaston and Luo Honghao is ahead of Tom Ford by the same scoreline. There is all to play for in those matches.

Betting
I’ll go with a couple of bets to round off this qualifying series. In the earlier session I think Michael Georgiou is overpriced to maintain his lead against Yan Bingtao. I watched a fair bit of the first session of that and Bingtao was very ordinary, and he has been for much of the season in fairness. Georgiou is playing well at the minute and if he starts this session strongly he could well break the back of this match very quickly. I’m not so sure Georgiou should be the outsider with a lead, even a narrow one like 5-4. I’m on him to see it through here.
One match where I fully expect a turnaround is the one between Luo Honghao and Tom Ford. Ford played the better of the two men overall on Tuesday but lacked the necessary consistency to get in front overnight. He knows the score from here though. It is do or die and I don’t expect him to lose focus here. He came back against Sam Craigie in the previous round, delivering the goods when the going was tough. I respect Honghao but he hasn’t been in this position before and if he shows any nerves Ford will be all over him. I’ll take the experience of Ford to turn this one around.
