Another two groups come to a close in the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday evening when it is the turn of C and D to play their last matches on what is another busy night of action in the tournament out in Egypt.
We saw the tournament hosts breeze into the knockout stages on Sunday and on Monday the likes of Senegal and the Ivory Coast will look to join Algeria and Morocco in the last 16 when four matches take place.
Group D (17.00)
Namibia vs Ivory Coast
South Africa vs Morocco
This is a rare thing so far in that it is a group where top spot has not yet been decided. Morocco are in control of their own destiny in it as they know if they avoid defeat against South Africa they will claim top spot. If they are to lose then it would open up top spot to South Africa and Ivory Coast, assuming the latter beat Namibia at the same time.
This has been a tough group to bet on as all four matches in it thus far have ended 1-0 to one of the other which isn’t ideal from a betting standpoint. I don’t think it is going to get too much easier on Monday either because Morocco only need a draw and Ivory Coast haven’t really done anything to impress me in the tournament to date. I’m not really keen on taking either on though so I’ll leave this group alone.
Group C (20.00)
Kenya vs Senegal
Tanzania vs Algeria
I’ve already coined it in as far as this group is concerned having backed Algeria to win it and whatever happens on this final day of action in it that is what will happen. They will face Tanzania knowing that they will do into the next stage on top of the pile which leaves Kenya and Senegal battling it out to see who progresses in second spot and while will have to wait and see if their points haul in third is good enough.
Although they have already won this group I still think Algeria will get the better of Tanzania. The minnows were heavily outclassed against Senegal in their first match and even though Algeria may rest one or two here I think they have the depth in their squad to come out on top here. What it might mean though is that they don’t go to town on Tanzania. Algeria look one of the best teams in the tournament to me and they can win this in a match which contains under 3.5 goals.
