Rivalry weekend in the MLS concludes with the last three matches of the round on Sunday evening with the pick of them very much being the battle of Los Angeles. We have to wait deep into the early hours for that one to kick off but the other two matches should be feisty.
Two of the three matches are on the combination of Sky Sports and Free Sports with the other one on the many streaming options so with it being a Bank Holiday on Monday we can set back and enjoy all three matches.
FC Cincinnati vs Columbus Crew (23.00)
The opening match of the night is the only one which takes place in the Eastern Conference as the rookies FC Cincinnati take on Columbus Crew in the battle of Ohio. These two are the bottom two in the Eastern Conference and the play-offs have always been a pipedream for the pair of them.
With that in mind they can play with some freedom and go on the attack and look to find some goals in what should be an entertaining game with little competitive edge to it other than the pride of being the best in Ohio. That said, I’m not sure I would trust either to deliver the goals so I’ll take a watching brief of the opening match.
FC Dallas vs Houston Dynamo (01.00)
The second match of the night sees two sides who are outside the play-off spots in the Western Conference meet when the two Texas sides FC Dallas and Houston Dynamo battle it out in what is a huge game for both teams.
Dallas will move into the top seven with a win here while Houston will move to within a win of it should they come out on top so we should expect a fiercely competitive battle here. Houston are in absolutely no form at all at the minute but Dallas don’t have the best of records against their local rivals so this one too is a pretty easy swerve it must be said.
Los Angeles FC vs LA Galaxy (03.30)
The last match of rivalry weekend is another battle of Los Angeles as the Western Conference and Supporters’ Shield leaders Los Angeles FC host their city rivals LA Galaxy in what has the potential of being the best match of the week.
FC have won eight of their last nine matches but Galaxy won’t need reminding that it was them who beat them in the other match and they will be eager to do the same again. Galaxy lost their way after that win but they have shown signs of doing something again in the last couple of matches, and they need to keep getting results because the Western Conference is tight behind LAFC.
I’ve got to think there will be goals in this match. That win for Galaxy earlier in the campaign was 3-2 and Galaxy also beat their rivals 4-3 last season. LAFC have scored 22 goals in their last five home matches while Galaxy are not short of goals either despite their away form not being the best. They are missing a key defender here too so you get the feeling they’ll fight fire with fire. A 3.75 goal line is big whatever the match but it is with good reason here. I think it will be covered so I’m on the over.
