The second half of the double header in the Caribbean Premier League on Sunday evening comes from Providence where the Guyana Amazon Warriors are in action for the second night in succession as they take on the Barbados Tridents.
Guyana have played two in this tournament and won them both so they are in decent touch and another victory here will have them sitting pretty. Barbados get their campaign up and running here and will look to do so with a win.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
There has been a lot to like about the Guyana Amazon Warriors in this competition so far. It immediately catches my eye when a side show they can defend a score and chase one down early in a tournament and that is exactly what they have done in their opening two matches. The score they defended wasn’t the highest so that bodes well for them while the one they chased down could have been awkward had they let it so that was a good effort too.
That shows us that the Amazon Warriors are a balanced unit. They haven’t relied on the same people to deliver the goods either which is another positive. One issue here could be that they are backing up a performance so soon. That is never easy but the confidence of a couple of wins behind them might make the legs feel a little less tired.
Barbados Tridents
We don’t really know what to expect from the Barbados Tridents giving that this is their first offering of the competition. Historically we’ve seen them look better on the quicker pitches in the competition which would stand to reason when you factor in that the Kensington Oval pitch is probably the best for batting in the Caribbean these days. In turn though it might be the reason why they have only won this title once.
With this being the third match in four days on this ground we know that the pitch is not going to be a flat featherbed here so the Tridents are going to have to show something we’ve not necessarily seen from them recently. They look to have addressed their shortcomings with the squad they have put together but we’ll only truly know what we are going to get from them when we see them in action.

Team News
Given that there has been a short turnaround and that Guyana produced a good all-round performance on Saturday evening, it would be something of a surprise if they are not unchanged for this match.
JP Duminy and Josh Lalor have come in for the Barbados Tridents. It is not yet known whether Alex Hales is playing the early part of the competition and then going back for Vitality Blast finals day but even if he is, this doesn’t look like the pitch he would thrive on.
Betting
I can’t go against my philosophy here even though it means taking on my outright bet. I say it all the time but I keep on saying it because it keeps on ringing true, it is so hard to back up performances in this format of the game the day after playing. That is the case when there is near to 24hrs in between but the fact is there is barely 18hrs between the Saturday game on this one beginning. That’s tough.
I’m not sure what we will make of the Barbados Tridents come the end of the competition but if they have anything about them at all they should be able to see off what has to be jaded opposition here. They look to have enough spin options and if the likes of JP Duminy and Shai Hope go well with the bat there is enough for the Tridents to win this.
