After the success of their daytime tournament, the wonderful people at Modus Darts have decided to bring us some evening action as well and on Monday evening their ‘A Night at the Darts’ competition begins.
The tournament follows the same pattern as the daytime one but on paper at least the personnel looks a whole lot stronger. Like the daytime tournament, this one is available to watch on YouTube and should kill a few hours of lockdown.
The Format
Each night from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and for free on Dartslive.tv
Monday Line Up
It looks like we have a crackerjack of an evening of darts in store as the two men who dominated the Icons of Darts last week, David Evans and Wessel Nijman, show up in the evening looking to continue their impressive form and a foe from last week in Raymond van Barneveld will also be on show hoping to fare a lot better than he did over the course of that week.
The other two men in the field are new to viewers of these events but certainly not of darts fans overall. Martin Adams is the first of the two and he needs little introduction, and still has a decent game to his name on his day as well. It was only last month that he made the final of the Isle of Man Open and earlier in the year pushed Scott Waites all the way in the World Championship. Ritchie Edhouse is the other man involved on Monday night.

Outright Betting
As you would expect given how well they both played last week, David Evans and Wessel Nijman head the betting for this event. Punters go into the evening knowing what they are going to get from these two men but we saw in the daytime that a competitive edge doesn’t count for a whole lot in the grand scheme of things. It is hard to get behind Raymond van Barneveld based on what we saw last week though.
The newbies are the outsiders of the set in most places but I’m willing to chance Ritchie Edhouse. I’m not completely writing off Martin Adams but I’d like to see how he fares in this setup before getting too involved in Wolfie. Edhouse has been a PDC regular in recent times and it wasn’t so long ago he was beating the likes of Jim Williams and Andrew Gilding at Q-School. He also put in some good averages on the Challenge Tour and might be underestimated here. He looks overpriced to me at 15/2.
Match Betting
I’m not going to get too involved in the match betting on Monday night. I’d rather wait and assess the action before getting stuck in more over the course of the week but there is one I’m going to take which comes in the form of the match between David Evans and Raymond Barneveld, who will be meeting for the fifth time in the space of eight days after both took part in the Icons of Darts last week.
Evans came out on top in three of those four matches and he is probably a rightful favourite to come out in front again here but the one thing I noticed in all of those games was that they all had eight or more legs in them. Evans won 5-3 in their first meeting, 5-4 in their second and 5-3 again in their final one while Barneveld’s win was 5-3 too. You can get 4/5 on another match of more than 7.5 legs and that looks fair to me.
