2020 WDF Remote Darts League – Saturday 25th April Matches Tips and Betting Preview

It is the penultimate night of the first stage of the Remote Darts League on Saturday night as the competition heads towards a conclusion in the group stages. The 10 men will once again battle it out from their homes for two valuable points and more entertainment for us.

We probably got the best night of darts of the eight so far on Friday with only one of the matches not going the full distance and half of the players involved putting up averages over the 90 mark. Hopefully we get more of the same on Saturday.

The Format

If you are a fan of the Premier League Darts event that the PDC hold each year this format will be familiar to you as it is very similar to that. The 10 men face each other once over the first nine evenings of the competition with the top four in the league table progressing to finals night in the 10th evening. The winner of the semi-finals and final is crowned the champion. Each match in the league phase is the best of 12 legs and players get two points for a win and one for a draw. The whole event will be shown live on the Remote Darts League channel on YouTube.

Night Seven

The standard certainly went up a notch on Friday night and we were treated to some great action. The pick of the matches was the final one of the evening as Paul Hogan edged out Gary Robson 7-5 in a match where both averaged over 90 and which produced five 180s and a 177. The night started with poor fayre as Dean Winstanley and John Walton drew 6-6 before Jim Williams laid down his title credentials with a 7-3 win over Alan Norris. James Richardson lost his unbeaten record in match three when Tony O’Shea broke throw in the deciding leg to win 7-5 and in the other match Wes Newton and Darryl Fitton drew 6-6.

It wasn’t a great night for us betting wise with Winstanley failing to get over the line against Walton even though he led 6-5. To be fair to Winstanley, Walton played his best darts in the final leg to seal the draw. We got most of those losses back later in the night though when Gary Robson picked up the five legs we needed him to in his defeat against Paul Hogan.

Preview

When we look at the Saturday card one match absolutely jumps off the page at us. That is the one between James Richardson and Jim Williams, both of whom can seal their spot at finals night if they come out on top in this battle. The night finishes with another good looking match between the current leader in the table in Paul Hogan and a man who needs a win to keep his top four hopes alive in the shape of Darryl Fitton.

We begin the night with Tony O’Shea looking to consolidate his position in the top four when he takes on Wes Newton who probably delivered his best game so far on Friday night. The third match of the evening sees Gary Robson looking to take his hopes of reaching the semi-finals into the last night of the group stage when he faces John Walton while the other match on the card has Alan Norris facing up to Dean Winstanley.

Betting

I’ll go with two bets here. The first of them is a double on a couple of favourites that I expect to win but who throw second so I don’t really want to be relying on wins by double breaks and things like that. The two men in question are Tony O’Shea and Gary Robson. O’Shea has got better as the week has gone on and is beginning to look like the player who got to world finals with 90+ averages and composure on the doubles. Wes Newton looks anything like that and could be in for another disappointing night. Gary Robson has probably been the player whose play has been better than his results this week but he can pick up two points against John Walton who continues to struggle and is out of his depth. Put the two to win together and you get a near enough 11/10 shot which is a nice price.

The other bet I like on the night is for Paul Hogan to cover a 2.5 leg handicap against Darryl Fitton. Importantly for betting on this handicap, we already know that Hogan is throwing first so he only needs to break throw once and hold throughout to cover this line. Fitton is likely to string legs together but his scoring aside from his 180s has dropped off over the last couple of nights whereas Hogan is bubbling to the boil nicely. Hogan was near enough flawless on Friday night and if he comes out of the blocks here he should have too much for the Dazzler. The 11/10 on him to win 7-4 or better given that he throws first is the way to increase the value on a Hogan win.
