CPL 2020 – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Tips and Betting Preview

The final match of the Caribbean Premier League from the Queens Park Oval this year sees the bottom two in the CPL 2020 table battling it out for much needed points when the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots take on the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Clearly these two teams haven’t made the start to the season that they would have desired but there is still a chance that they can make it through to the semi-finals, but they need to launch a winning run here.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The schedule hasn’t been particularly kind to the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in this match. They were only playing on Saturday night and now they have to back it up here after a relatively tame loss to the Jamaica Tallawahs. Worse still they lost a couple of players in that match to injury and you wouldn’t think less than 24 hours is enough for those players to recover and go again here. This is going to be as much a mental test for the Patriots as it will be a physical one.

A big issue for the Patriots is that Evin Lewis was one of the players who picked up an injury on Saturday and if he doesn’t make it here that will significantly weaken an already light looking batting line up. The Patriots have found a couple more spin options with the ball but they don’t have enough of them or the quality to keep opposing sides contained for an entire innings, as we saw against Jamaica who got away from them late on.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyana Amazon Warriors have had three days off since their last outing and they probably needed them to take stock of where they are going wrong and try to come up with a plan to put things right. Teams are not always afforded that luxury in these franchise competitions so they will be looking to take advantage of that. They will know the area that the need to improve comes in the form of the batting. They haven’t made 140 since their first game and that needs to change going forward.

If the Amazon Warriors batsmen can come to the party the Guyana have the bowlers to get the job done and do some damage so all eyes will be on those batters to see what they have to offer. If you look down their order there is no shortage of talent but few of them have really found their best form over the course of this tournament. Now would be a good time to do that in what is an important match for the Guyanese outfit.

Key Men

When sides have to back up after a disappointing performance I always look to the captain to be a key man so Rayad Emrit will be a key person. He needs to remain positive in his outlook and put on a show to inspire his side into life.

If Guyana Amazon Warriors are going to win this match you would think they need a big contribution from star batsman Shimron Hetmyer. He played a different type of innings in the previous game which shows his versatility but if he can explode into life it would give his side a good chance of winning.

Betting

The Guyana Amazon Warriors might not be in the greatest form with the bat but this St Kitts and Nevis Patriots bowling attack might just be coming along at a good time for them. There is no crazy mystery in that attack and in truth it relies on its fast bowling to really deliver the goods. Guyana have players who can tuck into quick bowling so hopefully from their point of view their batting woes will ease up a little here. We’ve already seen this Guyana bowling attack restrict St Kitts and Nevis to just 127/8 in the reverse meeting between these two sides and this pitch probably suits their spinners and change of pace bowlers even more than the one in Tarouba did. When you add in the schedule and injuries for St Kitts I expect a comfortable Guyana win here.

I’ll take a chance that Evin Lewis doesn’t make it for this match and that Kieran Powell opens the batting once again. If that does happen then the 15/2 on Powell to top score would immediately be incredible value. He’ll be facing spin first up but he didn’t look too bad against two very good Jamaica spinners on Saturday evening so there is no reason why he can’t score well if given the chance. There are worse 15/2 shots around as he could be in with a shout of top scoring wherever he comes in, but if he arrives at the crease to open it is game on.
