The second half of the double header of action in the Caribbean Premier League on Wednesday sees two of the top four in action in a match which could well lay down a marker for the semi-finals should the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the St Lucia Zouks meet in them.
The St Lucia Zouks go into the match in second place in the table while the Amazon Warriors sit in third and if that is where they finish at the end of the week then it will be these two teams meeting in a semi-final, so this is a chance for both to lay a marker down.
St Lucia Zouks
This has been an incredible campaign for the St Lucia Zouks. They were one of the outsiders for the competition at the outset but here they are with three matches still to play and they are already assured of their place in the knockout stages. One thing which is really becoming apparent in this tournament is the role of the captain so it shouldn’t be forgotten that in Daren Sammy, the Zouks have the best one in the competition.
As a result of that their bowlers are bang on the money because he uses them at the right time and sets attacking fields to get wickets without conceding too many runs. They haven’t batted like perhaps they might have done but even that department of their side have been quick to assess the situation and get the most out of what they have. They didn’t bat too well in their previous game though so that will be a concern that will have needed to be addressed.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
The Guyana Amazon Warriors look to be clicking into gear which nicely at the minute. We are used to seeing them at the business end of the season and it would be a fool who writes them off from here on in. They have taken a bit of time to really find their stride but with successive wins coming into this game there are signs that the five-time beaten finalists in this tournament might just be getting into a groove from which to make sure they compete for the title again.
The big different from now and the early part of the season is more of their key batsmen are beginning to find form. The likes of Brandon King and Nicholas Pooran look to be catching fire at the right time, and with a plethora of spinners in their bowling arsenal if they can start consistently putting up good totals they are going to be very hard to beat. The longer this week goes on the better they should get as the pitches tire again too.

Key Men
The key men in the Guyana Amazon Warriors batting line up are left-handers so Mohammad Nabi is going to be a key weapon for the Zouks. His off spin should keep the likes of Hetmyer and Pooran honest while his batting will be needed too.
Brandon King started to find some form for the Amazon Warriors in the previous match and with the St Lucia spinners turning the ball into the right-hander in the main, he should be able to bat with freedom again here. Expect another big innings from last season’s top run scorer.
Betting
I think the odds could be the wrong way around here. I say that for a few reasons really. The first being that the St Lucia Zouks have already beaten the Guyana Amazon Warriors this season and the second one being that they are higher than them in the table and have looked a bit more convincing throughout. The other reason why I like the Zouks here will surprise nobody and that is because the Guyana lot only played on Tuesday night.
That is clearly a big thing as evidenced by the Trinbago Knight Riders making a load of chances to their side the day after they played with a full strength one. It might be that Guyana do that but they don’t really have the squad depth that the Knight Riders have so if they were to change it would weaken them. St Lucia were awful with the bat against Barbados in their last game but they’ve had a few days to address that and as the fresher side I like the look of them here.
