2020-21 Sky Bet Championship – Wednesday 30th December Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The last Sky Bet Championship matches in 2020 will be played out on Wednesday evening when two games take place up and down the country in which four of the top six sides heading into the latest round of games collide on what promises to be a great night of football.

Both the matches are live on TV for us in the UK so that is as good an excuse as any to sit back with our feet up and taking in four of the better teams in the Sky Bet Championship in games which could provide a number of clues for how the remainder of the campaign may play out.

Where to watch

Both matches will be shown live on the Sky Sports Football channel with the build up to the pair beginning at 5pm and the matches themselves kicking off at 5.30pm and 8pm.

Brentford vs Bournemouth (17.30)

Two sides for whom anything less than promotion this season will be deemed a disappointment meet in the opening match of the night when the Carabao Cup semi-finalists Brentford host third placed Bournemouth with the winners moving into second for a few hours at least and within three points of the leaders Norwich City.

These are two of the best teams in the Championship both in terms of ability and performance. In the 41 matches they have played this term they have only lost five of them which highlights how difficult they are to beat. Although they are hard to beat they are the second and third highest scorers in the league. You’d hope with that record that we will see some goals here but I think they will both respect each other and there is a fear that they could cancel themselves out. If forced to I would back under 2.5 goals here but given that you’d be taking on the likes of Ivan Toney and Dominic Solanke I’ll leave that option alone.

Swansea City vs Reading (20.00)

The second match of the evening sees the team currently in second place in the table in Swansea City taking on a Reading team who set the early pace in the Championship this season but who have slid down the table a little over the last six weeks or so.

Reading have actually lost three of their last five matches and while two of those were to Brentford and Norwich, that could be significant as it would perhaps highlight that they are not quite up at the level of the very best teams in the league. The question then becomes whether you think Swansea are one of those and based on the fact they made the top six last term and sit second this year, there is a strong case to be made that they are.

Only Huddersfield Town have left the Liberty Stadium with all three points this season with the Swans not just winning at home but barely conceding too. They have only leaked four goals on their own patch all season and two of them were in that loss to the Terriers. Given that in Andre Ayew and Jamal Lowe they carry a fair enough goal threat at the other end it is not hard to see why Swansea are so good at home. With doubts over whether Reading truly can handle the better sides in the league I’ll take Swansea here, albeit with a bit of draw cover.
