The final match of the NFL regular season comes in the Sunday Night Football which this week will be all about the NFC East title and the final place in the play-offs which get underway next week. It sees the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Washington Football Team.
Whatever happens earlier in the night, the Washington Football Team know this is do or die for them. If they win this match they win the division and host the fifth placed team next week. Defeat will see either Dallas or New York Giants overtake them and end their season. The campaign ends here for the Eagles regardless of the result.
Philadelphia Eagles
This has been a rotten campaign for the Philadelphia Eagles and they go into it with a 4-10-1 record. There have been signs that they can still be a good side this term when you consider that of those four wins two of them came against the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints, but they haven’t delivered anywhere near enough of their best performances and a slump in form has come along to just too many players.
The Eagles go into this match having lost six of their last seven matches, with their defence being the main problem in those games although the offense hasn’t really covered themselves in glory at any stage of the campaign. Injuries have been a big reason for that and as a result you’ve got to wonder whether they will be able to get themselves motivated for one last go this term. They will hope a primetime clash acts as the inspiration to perform.

Washington Football Team
It is probably a good thing for the Washington Football Team that they know they have to win this match to win the division and with it claim the play-off spot that is on offer in the NFC East. Even if they do win this match they will only finish the campaign with a 7-9 record but when the postseason starts next week that won’t matter as they will be hosting a team on a level scoreboard from the start. Much will be said about them making the postseason with a losing record but that isn’t for them to worry about.
Washington were on a four match winning burst not so long ago and were seemingly cruising towards the division title but successive defeats in the last two weeks mean they have to win this if they are going to get there. The positive is that their defence looks to be playing some decent football. You have to go back six weeks for the last time they conceded more than 20 runs so if Alex Smith’s return gets a tune out of the offense the visitors should go close here.
Betting
Although there is a lot of pressure on them I expect the Washington Football Team to win this match but they haven’t exactly been convincing at any stage of this season so I wouldn’t be all that surprised if they make a mess of things here. If they turn up and perform like they can then they certainly have the tools to get the job done here. If the expectancy and pressure gets to them this could quickly turn into a long night even against unmotivated opposition.
Whether Washington perform or not they are not the highest scoring team in the league and I doubt they will be that bothered about running up the score if they get too far in front with an eye on next week as well as making sure they achieve the primary aim which is just to win this match. Philadelphia can give this their all as it is their last game of the season so I think the 44.5 point line priced up for this match will go untouched.
