Three more matches take place in the Super League on Friday evening on the first night since the sport returned from the pandemic where not all the matches are going to be shown live on TV. That doesn’t stop us from betting on them though!
We might be relatively early in the competition but there is a feeling that a couple of these games could be pivotal to the sides involved. One of the three is on TV and you can subscribe to the Our League app to watch the other two.
Castleford Tigers vs Leigh Centurions (18.00)
The first of the two non-televised offerings sees the Castleford Tigers looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season when they take on the Leigh Centurions, who need a win soon to begin to justify their inclusion in the league.
Normally I would be looking to side with the Tigers in this match but I’m aware that they had to play an extra 20 minutes in the Challenge Cup last week which might make them a little more vulnerable than usual. The Centurions have been competitive enough in this campaign so they might well be able to keep this one closer than would be expected but at the same time a 20 minute burst from Cas could blow them away even if the Tigers are jaded. I’ll sit this one out.

St Helens vs Wakefield Trinity (18.00)
The champions are back in action in the second match of the evening when St Helens go up against a Wakefield Trinity team who have offered more so far than three defeats to begin the season would suggest.
Saints have picked up where they left off last season and look like they are going to pick up another win here given that Wakefield are without their leading try scorer over the last few seasons in Tom Johnstone. He is a huge loss to them but we’ve still seen enough to suggest that Trinity can be competitive. I’d be surprised if St Helens don’t win this match but I’m not that keen on backing them to cover a huge handicap this early in the season.
Hull KR vs Huddersfield Giants (19.45 – Sky Sports Arena)
Two sides who go in search of first points in the Super League this season meet in the match that is in front of the cameras on Friday evening when Hull KR take on the Huddersfield Giants in a game which might define the early part of both their seasons.
The Giants were expected to improve this season under the bright coaching of Ian Watson but if there is to be a revolution it certainly hasn’t started yet although they did pick up their first win in the Challenge Cup last week. Hull KR should have done likewise but they blew a huge lead in the second half and ended up playing almost 20 minutes of extra time as a punishment and you fancy that might take its toll on them here.
Huddersfield Giants have been without Aidan Sezer this season which has hampered them in attacking areas but he returns for this game which feels like it will be significant. I expect Huddersfield to pick up from here on in and against a Hull KR side who must be jaded after their effort last week and who have leaked points all season long anyway, I think the Giants can cover eight points here.
