IPL 2021 – Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Capitals Tips and Betting Preview

The second half of the Sunday double header in the Indian Premier League sees the final game of the season in Chennai being played when the Sunrisers Hyderabad take on the Delhi Capitals for two more valuable competition points.

Sunrisers haven’t really got going this season but they do come in here off the back of a victory last time out while the Delhi Capitals have three wins from four and can consolidate a good start if they come out with a win here.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

The first three games were a real struggle for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. That was a bit of a surprise in a way because you would have thought that these slower and lower conditions would have allowed their bowling attack to come to the party and really impose themselves on the competition. In fairness, the injury to T Natarajan probably didn’t help them and it took a game or two to get their combinations right. They were much more like the Sunrisers we would expect in their last game.

The other thing they did was rejig their side so that they got some calmness and experience into their middle order. As it turned out their bowlers did such a good job that the lower order batting wasn’t needed, but on paper it looked a lot stronger and that could be key because their collapses are happening far too often for a team with the class these have in their ranks. They immediately looked better with Jonny Bairstow back opening the batting.

Delhi Capitals

The beaten finalists of last year had done a lot of work in the close season to go better this term and one dodgy batting powerplay aside that is exactly what they are going. They have won three of their four matches and they almost rescued the one they lost from an unlikely position so the confidence must be high in the Delhi camp. Another thing that would have done their confidence no harm is the fact that they avenged their defeat in the final last season in their last match when they dominated the Mumbai Indians.

That win was particularly impressive because you wouldn’t have expected them to be at their best in these conditions, and although the same could be levelled at the Mumbai Indians, they had been here throughout unlike the Capitals who had to adjust to the conditions having started their campaign in Mumbai. If the Delhi batting can continue to operate on these sluggish pitches they’ll be very hard to beat here.

Key Men

You get the impression that this Sunrisers Hyderabad side are going to rely a lot on Kane Williamson in the coming matches. His presence allows the powerful opening pair to express themselves and then when they do get into trouble he can marshal the innings to get the Sunrisers to a decent score.

Shikhar Dhawan is now the leading batsman in the competition after his classy 45 against the Mumbai Indians and with the lower order of the Capitals all power they need someone at the top who is prepared to set the innings up for them. Dhawan can be that man.

Betting

I’m kind of glad that this is the final match in Chennai because the cricket is getting harder to watch and tougher to bet on as a result. I’m not going to go too mad on this match but I will explore the side markets for a bet. The only reason why I’m looking at the side markets is we’ve seen dew come into the matches more and more here so I’d rather not be relying on a team bowling with a potential bar of soap in the second innings.

The highest individual score market for this match has a line of 62.5 which with the bowling attacks that are on show here could turn out to be a little high. Both teams have high class leg spinners in their ranks so if the openers were to get away they can slow them up or preferably get them out and on these pitches we’ve seen them slow up dramatically so you wouldn’t think anyone outside of the top three will threaten such a score. Nobody in the lower order is in form with the bat for Sunrisers while only Rishabh Pant is for the Capitals. This pitch doesn’t suit his strengths so I’ll take the under on that line.
