Wimbledon 2021 – Women’s Quarter Finals Tips and Betting Preview

The quarter finals of Wimbledon 2021 get underway on Tuesday when all four matches from the ladies draw take place on the two main courts, which means that regardless of what the weather does we know all the games will be completed.

At the end of Tuesday we will know the four ladies who will battle it out in the semi-finals on Thursday so the prize at stage is decent enough which is likely to ensure we get some competitive action across the four matches.

Day 7 Recap

It was a ‘Manic Monday’ which lacked drama in all honesty with most of the big names winning through with plenty to spare. Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Ash Barty all cruised into the last eight while Aryna Sabalenka made it through in a deciding set. There were shock exits for the likes of Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev and Iga Swiatek while Daniil Medvedev couldn’t get finished so he’ll come back on Tuesday to conclude his match with Hubert Hurkacz.

It was a profitable day for us on Monday although only a slight one. It didn’t start out too well when Denis Shapovalov took Roberto Bautista Agut to the cleaners which wasn’t part of the plan. Thankfully as we suspected Angelique Kerber was far too good for Coco Gauff so she secured profit on the day. Our two remaining outrights also made progress as well so we might have come out of Monday in better shape than just a tiny profit.

Centre Court

Ons Jabeur vs Aryna Sabalenka

Once the men’s match between Daniil Medvedev and Hubert Hurkacz have played to a finish the opening women’s quarter final on Centre Court will see the number two seed Aryna Sabalenka taking on the Tunisian star Ons Jabeur for a place in the semi-finals.

Jabeur has entertained royally in this tournament so far and has seen off the likes of Garbine Muguruza and Iga Swiatek in three sets in the last two rounds so she certainly won’t fear anyone from here on in. Sabalenka has entertained as well in this event although she has done it with brute force and immense power, a game that kind of lives on the edge a little bit but it is that frailty that makes her so good to watch. All in all this should be a great game.

I’m already on Jabeur to win the tournament but I can’t resist the odds against quotes on her to win this match. Sabalenka will bring the power to the game here but the movement of Jabeur and the variety in her game could easily mess with that. They are 1-1 on the head to head with Sabalenka winning in Abu Dhabi earlier in the year and Jabeur at the French Open last year and it is that match which probably matters more here given the slowish conditions this week. I just like the way Jabeur is playing right now and I think she’s a big price at 5/4.

Ash Barty vs Ajla Tomljanovic

The second quarter final on Centre Court will be an all-Australian affair as the world number one Ash Barty looks to reach the last four for the first time when she meets her countrywoman Ajla Tomljanovic who has had quite a run so far.

Tomljanovic has seen off Jelena Ostapenko and Emma Raducanu in the last two rounds with injury timeouts marring both matches so she will probably be hoping for something like a normal match here. Barty has seen off some solid challenges so far in this tournament, not least in the previous round when she ended the unbeaten run of the French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova. It would have been hard to see Barty losing this one anyway but when you think how late Tomljanovic finished in comparison to her compatriot the cards are stacked even further against her. I like Barty here but the odds are about right.

Court 1

Karolina Pliskova vs Viktorija Golubic

We are used to Swiss tennis players gracing the second week of Wimbledon but we’re not used to that name being Viktorija Golubic. She will look to make the most of her run and extend it to the last four when she takes on the big serving Czech star Karolina Pliskova in the Court 1 opener on Tuesday.

Golubic shouldn’t fear Pliskova here. She has beaten a couple of powerful American players in Dani Collins and Madison Keys in this tournament and they play a similar game to the Czech, but Pliskova is yet to drop a set in the tournament so she is clearly hitting the ball very well. The one thing which could be the difference in this match is the occasion. Pliskova has reached major quarter finals in the last whereas this is new territory for Golubic and that might just be the deciding factor. I wouldn’t be surprised to see an upset here but there isn’t enough juice in the price for me to back one.

Karolina Muchova vs Angelique Kerber

The last of the quarter finals over on Court 1 sees the only woman to have gotten her hands on this trophy on show when Angelique Kerber takes on a Karolina Muchova who will be competing in her second successive Wimbledon quarter final here.

Muchova will hope to fare much better than she did in her first quarter final two years ago when she used up all her energy in beating her compatriot Karolina Pliskova in a three hour epic on ‘Manic Monday’ that she has nothing left to give the following day. She won in straight sets against Paula Badosa on Monday so should be much more at it here. Kerber has been going along nicely having won the tournament in Germany in the lead up to this tournament and has now come through four matches here, one of which was a three hour epic of her own in the second round. She was too clever for Gauff on Monday but might need more here.

I’m already on Muchova to win this match at 10/1 having backed her to win this quarter and I think she has every chance here against a Kerber who while playing well is not quite at her 2018 form. Muchova is a player for the big occasion and I think she can pull off the upset here so I don’t really need to get involved in this one again but I certainly wouldn’t put anyone who isn’t already on her to back her for this match.
