The Caribbean Premier League returns from the rest day on Tuesday and it does so with the Trinbago Knight Riders meeting the Jamaica Tallawahs for the second consecutive CPL 2021 match this term.
The two met on Sunday evening when the Knight Riders cruised to victory and they will battle it out again here with this match arguably even more important than their one at the weekend given that we are now firmly into the second part of the campaign.
Trinbago Knight Riders
The Trinbago Knight Riders needed a standout performance and they finally delivered it in their last match. It wasn’t the flawless cricket that we were used to seeing from them last season but they more than got the job done. They had the match won after about five overs of their bowling innings having decimated the Tallawahs top order, and although they would have been disappointed to allow Jamaica to get up to 144-7 from 15-5, they had enough to get the job done.
Kieron Pollard would probably like to see a more ruthless streak from his bowlers but to be fair to them Jamaica batted well down the order. The main thing was that with the score always looking a good 30 runs light, their batsmen never fluffed their lines even though they lost Sunil Narine early. That was the level that Trinbago will want to continue playing at as they go about getting into a position from where they can defend their title.
Jamaica Tallawahs
The Jamaica Tallawahs won’t have liked losing their previous match but they can be pleased with the way they fought hard and almost rescued an absolutely impossible position. At 15-5 when they were batting first the easy thing to do would have been to capitulate and be rolled over for 60 or so but they knuckled down and when a couple of players were able to play themselves in they showed that the game was still alive, although in truth they were never going to get enough runs.
Even with the ball they had a decent enough go and you have to give them credit for that. Trinbago got away from them quite early in the innings but the Tallawahs never gave up and it is that character which could yet define them and see them push on and make it into the postseason. Clearly they will want more runs from their top order but at the same time it would be a big surprise if they are ever 15-5 again.

Key Men
We finally saw the best of Lendl Simmons in the previous game between these two sides and that was significant if his uncle still hasn’t finalised the look of the side heading into the World T20 next month. Simmons will want to keep going now and cement his way into those plans.
Imad Wasim had a brilliant game against the Trinbago Knight Riders in the previous match with an innings rescuing 42 and then 2-19 from his four overs with the ball. The Tallawahs will be hoping he has a similar impression on this match.
Betting
I think we’ll see a few sixes in this match. There were 13 sixes in the first game between these two big sides and that was with one of the teams 15-5 at one stage in it so you’ve got to think that the 13.5 sixes line isn’t high enough here. While we can’t be certain of anything in this life, I think we can say with a fair degree of confidence that a side isn’t going to be in such dire straits in their innings that they are 15-5 at any stage of it.
The other thing to note is that Andre Russell only faced eight balls of that Jamaica innings on Sunday and Kieron Pollard only five when Trinbago Knight Riders batted and I think most judges would call those two among the bigger hitters in Caribbean cricket if not world cricket so there is a lot more to come from that pair as well. The pitch hasn’t had any action for 36 hours, that’s if we’re on the same one as Sunday, so I like over 13.5 sixes here.
