The quarter finals of the ATP Miami Open begin on Wednesday when the bottom half of the draw will determine the semi-final in that part of the bracket on the Stadium court inside the Hard Rock Stadium.
We have three top 10 players on show over the course of the day and into the evening on Wednesday so we should be treated to yet another decent day of tennis in a week which has certainly not failed to deliver on that front.
Day Session
Jannik Sinner vs Francisco Cerundolo
The opening quarter final of the tournament sees the man who was beaten in the final last year in Jannik Sinner going up against the lowest ranked player left in the competition in the form of the Argentine player Francisco Cerundolo.
Sinner had to survive the circus against Nick Kyrgios in the last 16 on Tuesday and did so with the minimum of fuss and his reward is a quarter final in which he is an emphatic favourite to come through. It is understandable why that is the case too because Cerundolo not only began the week 92 places below his opponent in the world rankings but he is seen as more comfortable on a clay court rather than a hard one, although these aren’t exactly the quickest courts we’ve ever seen which has helped him. Kyrgios made it clear against Sinner that this Stadium court is a lot quicker than the Grandstand one which both of these men played their previous match on so that is only likely to suit Sinner more. The Italian has a bit of a habit of making hard work of matches when he is a favourite though so I’m pretty happy to watch this one play out without a bet.

Night Session
Casper Ruud vs Alexander Zverev
The pick of the two quarter finals on Wednesday comes in the night session on the Hard Rock Stadium court as the world number eight Casper Ruud takes on the Olympic champion Alexander Zverev in a tasty looking match.
Ruud has breezed through to this point, winning all three of his matches without dropping a set and not really being in any danger at any stage. That was quite incredible when you consider that he hadn’t won a main draw match in this event prior to arrival this week. He is up against here though I suspect. Zverev dropped a set in blowing off the dust in his opening match against Borna Coric but he has been on cruise control since then and I think the slightly quicker conditions of this Stadium court will suit him much more in a way that it is no surprise his best clay court form comes in Madrid. This will be the first time Ruud has played on the main court and by the time he adjusts to conditions the German could be away and gone. Zverev has won both their previous meetings in straight sets dropping just 13 games in the process. I don’t see much changing here. I think Zverev wins this 2-0.
