The semi-final line up at the ATP Miami Open will be finalised on Thursday when the two quarter finals from the top half of the draw will be played out inside the Hard Rock Stadium as the second Masters 1000 event of the campaign heads towards a close.
We saw a couple of surprise results in the opening two quarter finals on Wednesday so the two big guns on show on Thursday will be eager to avoid going in the same direction which should keep them on their toes against dangerous foes.
Day Session
Daniil Medvedev vs Hubert Hurkacz
The quarter final in the day session on Thursday has plenty at stake as Daniil Medvedev goes at it with Hubert Hurkacz with the former playing for the number one in the world ranking once again while the latter bids to keep his title defence going.
Medvedev has come through the draw without dropping a set so far, and in Andy Murray and Jenson Brooksby in particularly he has faced a pair of competitive opponents. To be fair to Hurkacz he has only dropped the one set en route to this quarter final and clearly loves everything about Miami having won here last year. These two met three times last season and all three of them went to a deciding set so we should expect a lengthy battle between these star players but that is reflected in the odds and lines. I’d rather watch this on than get stuck into it from a betting point of view.

Night Session
Carlos Alcaraz vs Miomir Kecmanovic
The quarter final in the night session sees two men who made the last eight of the first Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells last week and will be aiming to reach the last four here when Carlos Alcaraz takes on Miomir Kecmanovic.
Both men had appealing wins in the previous round. Alcaraz overcame Stefanos Tsitsipas while Kecmanovic avenged his loss to Taylor Fritz in Indian Wells by beating him so both will go into this quarter final on a high. I opposed Alcaraz in the previous round and I was feeling quite good about life when Tsitsipas served for the first set but the Spaniard hit the afterburners in a way I’ve not seen for a long time and just blew the Greek away. It was the sort of performance that announced to the world how special this talent is. Kecmanovic was touted as being one for the future too and he is showing signs of life again this year but he lacks the weapons to derail Alcaraz in this one for my money. For me the outcome of this match will be all about how quickly Alcaraz finds his form. There have been a couple of instances where he’s needed half a set or so to get going but when he has he’s flown home. I think he’ll do that here and while the Spaniard to win 2-0 is incredibly short, under 21.5 games at 4/5 is perfectly acceptable. That still allows for Alcaraz to take a few games to hit his stride before thundering home.
